Patricia, Cleo has great cattitude! ;)

Michael you're giving me an education about anthuriums, I had no idea there was so much variety.

Andrea warocqueanum can be tricky from seed . I use a layer of sphagnum moss over very coarse bark and scoria with some compost mixed in .

Good luck :winkie:

luxurians is spectacular and also a bit tricky to grow .

I can't wait until 20 years from now when these will bloom! :D

All of them are from the pigtails except the bigger one in the first photo. The one in the last photo (with the chopstick) is one I grew from seed and it is over three years old!!

I wish I had gotten into anthuriums 20 years ago!

In the last pic you can't tell how huge it is... I didn't have anything for scale.

Even though we are on the leeward/dry side of the island, we get a lot of moisture because of convective currents that pull it up the mountain when the land gets hot. It also dews every night which anthuriums love. But it is so weird that just down the mountain it looks like a desert.

Time for more color.... I love the red on red... and yes the pink one is that pink! And I just had to take more pictures of the peppermint ones after they opened up... they looked so nice in the late afternoon sun!

And of course one more pic of the Smudge. (yes his name is "Smudge")

Angela,

Thanks for posting the beautiful pictures. I love anthuriums, but only have on native big on that I know of. I checked the plant list from the Ducke forest reserve which in the munipality of Manaus, 10,000 hecatores and there are 55 species listed in 12 genuses of the araceae family growing here. I do not k now how many of the species are anthuriums though as the list I found did not break that out. There are a total of 2079 species of plants so far indentified growing in the reserve. All of the plants in this family are great and I love seeing them in the forest. And, I need to collect more of them.
