Dearest Bill, I believe it may have all to do with the conditions in which you grow such a palm--we all know depending on temps and humidity, a red leaf can last longer than in other situations. Also you're in the wrong state! I seem to recall Randy in Boca had a colorful one. Mine also has had leaves that were almost green--if you go back to the beginning of this thread, you will see that. Not a hybrid, sir--I have documented this palm from day one.

Andrew, The two I left behind were never a vibrant maroon/red, but more of a salmon color as seen in my previous post on the 2nd page of this thread.
Mandrew968 1,605 Report post Posted April 12, 2017 Randy, mine is not as red as a hookeri either. I like to think of it as rose.

Mandrew968 1,605 Report post Posted May 11, 2017 Here is a shot of the one I donated at work. Pretty decent color and I expect it will get stronger as the growth continues. I also believe this palm not to be a hybrid...

Mandrew968 1,605 Report post Posted June 9, 2018 These are the fruiting colony at MBC. These pics were for Bill (bsman). These palms open up new rosy leaves.
Tyrone 1,910 Report post Posted June 11, 2018 My one little seedling with around 4 bifid leaves was planted out in December 2016 into fairly strong summer sun and we recorded a 40C temp and it burnt a little but got stronger. Then in the winter it got frozen from probably a neg 3C event and didn't die. It just got fatter and of course burnt but then has kept on putting out new growth despite the cold weather now. These are tough little suckers and I wish I had 20 or 30 of them. When it gets some size on it, it's going to be a tough robust looking palm, well I hope anyway. I'll see if I can find a recent pic as it's pitch black outside now.
Tyrone 1,910 Report post Posted June 11, 2018 A sad picture a few weeks after the freeze event but it's looking far far happier now. Will try and get a new pic tomorrow.
