Recommended Posts

Hi again :-)

In may 2009, I got some seeds of Ptychosperma lineare from Australia...

Now, palms start to be bigger but... 50% of my palms have yellow leaves with red base...

(Same sun / Same soil / Same water...)

Who know Ptychosperma lineare with red/yellow palms ?

Mine are about 6 metres high now, the upper trunks are deep green but lower down they're grey. The only young ones near them are all green no sign of any reddishness. Where I've seen them growing in full sun they look yellowish but sickly. I thought it was just that they preferred shadier situations.

The 2 are at the same place (70% shade)... So, it's not problem regarding the light... The red can not come from the sun or shade...

Adam, there’s not a lot of red in them yet. Its a clumper and is knee high only. I had tried them as seedlings in the past with no luck, but then found a nice 2 gallon plant about 3 years ago at Jungle Music. Size made all the difference on this one..

I agree a good size palm is important is the I picked one up from phil also and it went hrough a hail storm and has seen a few hours of sun exposure everyday and looks good even after 1 day of 105 degrees . I just picked up a 9 ft single which some times they do  stay solitary the trunk is about4 1/2 inches at the base. It was grown part day sun 4 miles from the coast. I hope it does well 8 miles in at my house. I really like ptychosperma's and I am growing 5 species in ground with a cuple more that need  to get a little bigger first
