My Ravenea glauca is flowering for the first time. Can anyone tell me if it is a male or female?

A friend of mine's Livistona nitida is flowering now too...

Does any one else have a flowering L. nitida in Southern California?

Hmm.

I'm not familiar with the Ravenea flowers, but, if you tap it, or brush it, and powder (pollen) comes off, the flowers are male.

SOmetimes it takes a while for male flowers to get ready to shed their pollen.

Watch the bees; if they leave covered with pollen, male flowers.

Very cool Randy. Looks like it's got wet feet, I'm sure it likes its growing conditions

Definitely a male, the flowers are full of anthers (and I presume you knocked some pollen off it already). Maybe mate it with a female R. rivularis??

If someone near Corona, Ca has a female and wants it pollinated contact me. It has two more flower spears emerging.
