Yesterday was the first time this year I actually had to go out water midday because my other plants were starting to get droopy leaves. Yay!

86F for Los Altos today. Yesterday hit 80F. The ground is soaked from recent very heavy rains so this is a great start to the growing season. :)

Spring has finally sprung in Walnut Creek. The last few days have been in the mid to upper 80's, and more warmth forecast for the next few days. Things are growing fast, especially the winter weeds and grasses. My Oak trees are half leafed out, and the palms are beginning to grow.

Same here, it was so nice to walk the garden this morning with warm temps and the sun shining. Lot's of work ahead, weeds are in high gear, gophers are out in force, and lot's of winter damage to clean up, ahhhh the joys of gardening :)

Woke up today to cloudy skies. I guess this is what it feels like to live along the coast where the sun doesn't break through the clouds till the afternoon. :P

Chance of rain on Friday...WTF!?

Not that bad today. The masses of clouds are moving fast eastward and should be totally gone by Saturday.

Bright sun and intermixed with cloud shadowing. It only rained big drops for like 2 minutes and now it's sunny again.

We got .20" of rain overnight. Most of it came in two separate heavy downpours. It woke me up it was coming down so loud.

I don't think plant growth is as off and on like a switch as you seem to perceive it is. Keep in mind that a lot of the plant is below ground and the soil temperature doesn't rise and fall like the air temperature.

For the most part March in N. Calif. was warmer than normal with many days in the 70's and even 80's, but for the last few days we have slipped back into winter time temps. My nights have been in the 40's and one night down to 36F and light frost on the roof tops. In spite of the cool temps, my Trachycarpus are blooming and my Parajubaeas are begining to grow. Not much action on any of the other palms yet.

It's going pretty good for Spring. I'm still only watering once a week, that's nice. Lots of fruit trees are forming fruit, no cycads are flushing yet. Cycas thouarsii should be amongst the first to start that off. A few of the more hardy Plumerias are starting to leaf out. Schizolobium still look like giant bean stalks, but they have all the new baby leaves ready to shoot out once it gets warm enough.

will those schizolobiums be "explosively" shooting out leaves,or just the "normal" kind of shooting out leaves?

its a little-known PT rule that you must be wearing shakespearean garb & holding a scroll & getting a trumpet fanfare

before you can do ANY proclaiming.

wait,i'm not done.
