Thanks for the photos of Darolds garden. It's always a pleasure to see his beautiful palms, especially that Geonoma undata!

inside darolds greenhouse we see many tropical plants he has collected from

habitat & seedlings he has propagated from his own palms.

garden art is a must!

darold asked me not to post any pictures of him so i cant tell you if this is his hand or not.

but it is.

darold gave me an offspring of this plant!

that night we went to an indian resto near our hotel.

there was a review of the resto printed & hung on the window that said "BYOB."

so we did.

it was very "self service"--stand in line to order,get yer own hot chai,they even had

serve yerself appetiziers although they onl came out sporadically.

the food was REALLy good & VERY reasonably-priced.

everyone ordered the same things.you gotta go with the "classics."

later that night we went to a bar & "bullit" was playing on the large TV screen,

which i thought was cool,since it was filmed in SF.

later jes' dad mentioned in passing that some guy used to set up pyrotechnics for the

block parties on the street they lived on & once he got drunk & almost blew up the neighborhood--

it was the guy who did all the special effects for "bullit."

later later we passed by where someone got kicked out of their second floor apartment.

next morning we went to the levis store & saw this cool

collection of levi jackets with slogans from each state embroidered on the backs.

they were all cool.

we had lunch with jes' parents in "japan town."

"japan town" square was kinda quiet since it was labor day.

jes with her pops "dutch" & her friend jen.

"dutch" has lived in more different countries than you've had hot meals,plus been in 3

different armies & had 29 distinct careers.

then we dressed up in traditional garb.

then we went to a block party in jes' old neighborhood of "noe valley."

it was freakin' broiling hot up there while people back home in san diego were burning their furniture

to stay warm.what a weird summer.

But seriously Darolds garden is amazing and has many of my favorite palm . Another reason i found the garden so interesting is the fact that every palm Darold can grow should do well at my place due to the similar climate (a little warmer in summer )

Post # 44 - the leaf of a variegated Clivia miniata,

the interesting pattern is a bromeliad, Werauhia oroiensis,

the gift plant from the parent is an Anthurium species (unknown)

Troy Donovan left with me some seeds of Bob DeJong's purple crownshaft Rhopalostylis sapida. I will be propagating these for future gift distribution!
