On the plane ride over in the Hana Hou magazine there was a story called fighting giants. It was a story about catching Ulua/Giant Trevally fish at this very spot and would'nt you know it as fate would have it we met a couple of legends. There is like a fishing hall of fame that list every fisherman who catches a 100 lb. Ulua from shore. One guy we met has caught 3!! He says his Braddah caught a Sailfish and an Ahi from shore the week before :blink:

They tie Trash bags and balloons to there line and let it drift several hundred yards from shore where the depth is hundreds of fathoms. Here was their setup.post-351-058211600 1285473935_thumb.jpg

One of our funnest adventures was ocean kayaking. Steph and I rented a tandem kayak and went out with Tom and Carrie and Jerry and Cindy. We left from the "ice pond" in Hilo, kayaked around coconut island, through Hilo bay, Up the river to waterfalls and to a secluded black sand beach and back. Total round trip was about 5 miles.
