Mahalo Paul for sharing your recent LA trip with us. I do get to the Los Angeles area every now n' then but I was unaware of the Indonesian Festival. For those who really know LA there's some of everything there including peoples and their culture from all over the world. When you go out to eat how do you decide which ethnic cuisine to try next? Are there any countries of the world not represented there? When we were there in May we passed by some Ethiopian eating places (N. La Cienaga Blvd) but didn't have time to stop and try it out. However, later we went to one of the Brazilian Churrascarias (Burbank) and it was quite good. We had just returned from the IPS Biennial in Brazil and we wanted to see how authentic it was to the many Currascarias that we experienced while there.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Oh, the Churrascaria in Burbank was good but meat varieties was more limited and we wanted a Guarana drink but they were all out of it. BTW, there are other Currascarias in Glendale, La Mirada and also in OC but can't recall the city.

Maybe you can morph this into your Bali thread and make one Mega-Thread which will create a giant black hole of forums and suck all of us down into it forcing the time-space contiueum to bend thus creating a worm hole and we'll all end up shooting out the other side landing in Bali 20 years in the future where we'll all have white hair and beards except you'll still be bald.

Okay as a person who tried sushi once and nearly choked trying to swallow it because there was nowhere to discretely spit it out, I'm not qualified to comment on the array of horrors pictured above on plates. Just devoured a bowl of soto mie actually. Ari, I havent had decent mexican food since I left melbourne. I dont think Brisbane even has a mexican place. Then again, the chinese food here has been very much downgraded to suit the local tastes. (tomato sauce on ya peking duck)Occasionally I cook up a cauldron full of good old fashioned pre war kraut style stodge and my friends come running and think I am serving up something rather exotic.

Are you sure that was Bill you took with you ?

The person in the photo had men's clothing on. I thought Bill's taste ran to more exotic garments.

Enjoyed seeing all your activities on your Indo-fest trip to LA. All the different foods looked good too. As for Mexican food in SoCal, must be more Mexican eating places than any other and all types as well. Whenever we go visit there, that's out main diet! lol

Great log, loved the food and observant pics plus witty captions! B)

Btw, please check out the Malaysian Consulate in LA, hope not too late for you to score another cultural feast (satay, rendang etc...) There is celebration every 31 August for Merdeka Day (Independence Day) throughout M'sian embassies/consulates worldwide.

Failing which, try to get an invite for Hari Raya Puasa (Muslim New Year) which may fall on the 10 or 11 September 2010!

Malaysians love their food so it's 'jom makan' time!

cheers :)

p.s. jom makan = let's go eat

Janie, usually the food is better at Idul Fitri, isn't it not? I remember when I was in uni in Melbourne, the Malaysian dorm (for Malaysian students) used to have an open day. Of course, I had many Malaysian friends.. so I used to go and enjoy the yummy Malaysian food.
