We visited with Maurice Love in Rhodes in july.

He arrived at the boat to pick us up with 2 bottles of Ozzo.what a great day we had, some pictures of the hospitality, his place and the nearest town. Maurice has bought a 1300sqm block to expand his collection of palms. Denise and are looking forward one day to see his dream come alive. He is a wonderful host,we had a 2 hour lunch, visited places all over the island finishing with a delicious italian meal cooked by an Italian New York cat walk model, muma mia. At 2am we woddled back to the boat! what a visit to Lindos.

Rhodos town has  an ancient walled city that has 6000 people living within them.

The only palms we saw there where Phoenix canariensis and Chamaerops humilis with silvery underleaves

Colin,

Thanks for the Greek excursion! All the islands there are great. My wife and I spent a week on Kos, the next island over from Rhodes, many years ago and I definitely wouldn't mind going back to visit some of the other islands. Only problem is that there are so many other places to visit that are easier to get to... at least from Hawaii! (I know, I know, it's a long way from Australia as well...)

Hi Bo

We flew to Kos and left from Kos, hopped on our friends boat then Turkey and many small Greek islands for 21/2 months. It was a great adventure, Hopped onto another friends boat and took it from Gibraltor to the Canarie Islands. Then flew to a the USA and caught up with many palmtalk members. Certainly made some good friends along the way

Ray thanks for bringing it back to the top as I missed it too. Beautiful views. I hope to visit Greece and the Med area in general in the near future.

Thank you Colin for sharing such lovely photos.  The views are really breathtaking.  Although the Algarve (Portugal) is not the same, your photos do make me quite wistful for the place I once called home.

I am glad you had such a wonderful holiday.  Your friend Maurice has a marvellous pool and yard.

@ pohonkelapa and Zac, I am a huge british comedy fan.  Actually my exposure is somewhat narrow as I haven't yet seen Mighty Python (shame on me), I am a die-hard fan of French & Saunders and Absolutely Fabulous.

Aloha

Hi all,

Not only is the ancient achitecture really interesting and thought provoking (as in how did they do without modern cranes and equipment, finding out how is a great adventure in itself) the different origins and cultures of the people throughout the area was fascinating. In one anchorage we decided to walk a goat track for exercise and found a ruined (by earthquake) large town probably 1400 years old with the bush growing through it, The remains of a church with religious art still on the walls, around the eastern part of the MED we saw lots of ruins in remote places going thousands of years old. Best of all where the people. can recommend visiting the region

Does Rhodes perhaps have a reputation as a magnet for English yobs?

Yes it was. the Bronze statue stradled the entrance to the existing harbour but fell down due to an earthquake

On the subject of English Yobbo's. this did happen in the resorts south of the city of Rhodes but they called in the English police and sorted them out, closing down certain travel agencies and banning lewd act competitions. heard about one that was unrepeatable.

Alcohol is tax free there. so you can see how things got out of control. They have been moved on.

Sounds like one of the destinations might be Bratislava.

I've visited Daytona Beach enough times not to be fazed.   I'm impressed that the steerage passengers on British Airways flights from Gatwick to Orlando seem to be pretty decent.
