Lorenzi's Plantarum - last stop of Post Tour

This was our last day of the Post Trip. We left Belo Horizonte, M.G. on an early (one hour) flight to Campinas, Sao Paulo state. Then a short bus ride to Nova Odessa where Harri Lorenzi's PLANTARUM is located. Offical name is: Instituto Plantarum de Estudos da Flora LTDA. It's a beautifully landscaped botanical garden not yet open to the general public. This garden has a fantastic collection of most of the Brazilian palm species (minus a few of the Amazonian species only). Here you will find all the known Syagrus, Butia, and Allagoptera species, many of which are not yet grown or known (some newly discovered) outside of Brazil. Here are some of the palms we saw there, some of the newly discovered or collected species are still quite young and not showing their landscape

potential yet. The many small dwarf species of Syagrus and Butia are unique and would fit well into a small garden setting.

Growing in Lorenzi's Plantarum are almost all of the dwarf or short-type of Syagrus species, altho some are so newly discovered and planted that they don't yet show their true beauty. However, I will show them here if only to familiarize you with their names. They can all be seen in full color photos with describing features, distribution, uses, propagation, etc., in Lorenzi's new book, BRAZILIAN FLORA - Arecaceae (Palms). It's available in both Portuguese or English.
