Mr Cycad 11 Report post Posted September 19, 2010 Linospadix sp. in flower down at the creek. I actually saw some little black native bees hanging around the flowers which I couldn't get a photo of as they were too quick... The creek is all dirty in the background as we got 30mm of rain yesterday in maybe 20 minutes...
Mr Cycad 11 Report post Posted September 19, 2010 Norm & Alex from post 80 also. Nice Bowenia spectabilis with new leaf up at the top of the block. Nice little flowering plant down near the front cut off drain which to me looks like an orchid?

Mr Cycad 11 Report post Posted September 19, 2010 And another creek shot down the back... this is a little tributary that runs into the main creek (not quite deep enough to swim in). Note the small Archontophoenix on the edge of the creek to the front left. That's it for now - enjoy!

Mr Cycad 11 Report post Posted January 22, 2012 Wow, doesn't time fly when you're having fun! Haven't posted in here for awhile, so here's some updates from today. It's been pretty wet lately and yard work is slowing up. A mango, next to the Melicope elleryana (Pink Euodia) as featured in post #73. That mango is 2+ metres tall, and the euodia are 3.5 metres tall easy. Pinanga sp. 'blue seeds' Dioon sp. 'el camaron'

tropicbreeze 690 Report post Posted January 22, 2012 Looking as nice as ever Kurt. Apart from poor soil, dry season drop in humidity, and time, there's nothing stopping me having my place looking like that. By the way, the orchid back in post #85 is a Geodorum neocaledonicum. The palm on the right in the first photo in post #96 looks like an Iguanura spectabilis. I have a couple, but a bit smaller. And I still haven't managed to get a Caryota zebrina. Z4Devil 26 Report post Posted January 22, 2012 Woooow! I wished we here in Germany would have your climate, Kurt. It doesn't bear thinking about what palms I would have infront of my house and around. Better than La Réunion and Brazil. Great backyard, Kurt and natural finished. tropicbreeze 690 Report post Posted January 22, 2012 Hey g'day Zig. Thanks for that! #96 is actually a Pelagodoxa henryana & Vershaffeltia splendida on the right. Now that you mention it, I can see that. But there certainly is a resemblance when they're that small.
tropicbreeze 690 Report post Posted January 22, 2012 Zig, I did give you 2 Caryota zebrina seedlings?? They died?? Regards, Ari Ari, no, not any C. zebrina. All the palms you've given me are now all in the ground. Bringing in that soil last year gave me lots more room. And now with all the humidity and rain they're all powering along, hopefully well settled in before the dry starts.
ariscott 48 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 I am sure I gave you a couple of seedlings... (next time you come over again.... I have to check how many I have left....) Sorry Kurt... try not to hijack this thread too much. BTW, good planting!! I wish I was planting. I need more mulch... more time... more money and MONSOON to do my big planting session.... And I have none of the above....
Mr Cycad 11 Report post Posted January 23, 2012 G'day Ari, that's OK. And thanks! So you haven't thought any further about our discussion about growing your own / making mulch?

ariscott 48 Report post Posted January 24, 2012 G'day Ari, that's OK. And thanks! So you haven't thought any further about our discussion about growing your own / making mulch? Apparently it was too hard.... he he he. We have to get rid of the gamba & mission grass before we can do that... I was hoping with this low hanging around and dumping rain, we can get some planting done on Friday... here is hoping.... I have a whole shadehouse to plant out... Mr Cycad 11 Report post Posted January 29, 2012 Was walking around with my camera handy yesterday and thought I'd share some more photo's at my place. We've had a pretty wet January, with similar totals to the guys down south, but more spread-out (except for the occasional minor flooding event (pretty standard issue up here in the Wet Tropics). We had a nice thunderstorm Saturday night also with around 30mm only. Dew points have been around 27 degrees with 80% humidity minimum. One of my favourite spots on the block, as previously featured... 'Wait-a-while' (Calamus sp.) down by the creek. That cool bendy Licuala ramsayi on the creek. Mr Cycad 11 Report post Posted January 29, 2012 Old Calamus sp. inflorescence. One of the few different Calamus sp. that inhabit this area - this one is my favourite. View from the top of the block on the edge of the clearing, looking down to where the water freely runs out of the bottom of the bank (freshwater spring), approximately 3 metres in drop elevation.
