Desired new Feature

Dean,

It probably isn't possible, but it would be interesting to me if each profile had a feature for the member to list the palms they have and the status, such as in ground vs. potted, alive vs. dead, when obtained, etc.

This might help any of us who live in close proximity to try some palms that they thought they may not be able to grow.

I would volunteer to beta test...

Just a thought....

John - I believe the idea and concept is a good one.

The major obstacle is those who would be willing to volunteer the data. unsure.gif

Could be a problem with people (like me) who have dozens and dozens of potted palms with missing or unreadable labels, and dont have a bloody clue as to what species most of them are.

John,

This could be accomplished in a variety of ways. I believe a list could be placed directly in the "About Me" part of a profile. Or probably a better way would be to compose a .doc or .pdf and post it somewhere like Facebook, Palmpedia, etc. and then include a link in your "About Me" page. A template could even be prepared to standardize the format.

If there is enough interest, or you want to try and set something up as a beta, PM me. With enough participation, I would be willing to customize a field in the profile that could be titled something like "Personal Palm List Link"

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Will do.

Probably in the form of a Excel spreadsheet, unless you have a preference for something else I can produce.

Thanks....

Hard to believe, but I'm not a fan of typing. As I think Dean alluded to, if a template could be accessed by me that I could check off all the points you mentioned and then it made a list on a profile page, I'd be up for that.

But to type out what I have or had, where it is, on a list, etc. HA! My interest stopped in that once I passed 100 species...

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Typing a list is tough,..but what about drop down boxes for genus and species? That puts more work on the creation of the list, but I'll bet Dean has a full list of them somewhere already.

I would not expect everyone would be interested, but a little inventory of what you have may surprise you when you do your own.

My modest collection is easy...remembering where I got them is a little more difficult.

Just an idea at this point anyway....all input is gratefully accepted by me, maybe not by Dean....

John,

Don't forget that a lot of people don't have the software to read an Excel spreadsheet. I would recommend some format that has the most penetration like a .doc or .pdf

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.
