I can't make jokes even though you said cock.  It's sad. :(  Poor little chickens.  What did they do to deserve that?  They should be living comfortably until they are in my sandwich.   So cruel.  I'm glad you lost $10.  I hope it left a bad taste in your mouth too....no pun intended.  We should go out for sushi tonight.

they live very comfortably.right up until they are made to fight to the death for our amusement.actually, they are pampered until "the day"arrives.the owner spens alot of time with "his cock".

it is now illegal to be found at a cockfight.this was a

special occasion for the temple ceremony & they had to get a permit.

sushi sounds good!

Oh ok. Yes, not sure why the Scots wear them, because it is cold. They must be a hardy people. I wouldn't be caught dead in a kilt, but if I was in Bali, I might be in one of those skirts, if its more comfortable.

I can't believe I almost missed this thread! Thanks so much for all your pictures. I'm sure you had a great time.

Andrea and I made a trip there a few years ago. We had a scary moment at the monkey forest in Abud. The monkeys did not like when I picked up a stick to keep their distance. I also went to a cock fight, allthough Andrea would not get out of the van. She could'nt watch it.  We had a young driver we hired for the entire week. He was great and trusting with our personal gifts we bought that he kept for us.

We did have one big problem though. On the north shore , while on the beach we had on 2 occassions with young men coming up to us and talking about Osama Bin Laden. They made us feel real uncomfortable. If I was'nt out-numbered, I would of kicked their f.....g ass!

Other than that time, the country was very tropical and pretty. In some places, it was much dirtier than we expected. Thanks again.

Jeff, the north is Muslim country.

Better stay south, Hindu country more mellow, better waves, better beaches and better food.(and more Bali Beauties)

And yes it is dirty here and there but the people ... are so nice.

Hey I was born there.... but I'm not half as nice

Is that Spanglonesian Paul?

When frequently questioned by Indonesians how my name is Iwan, I explain that it isn't spelled Iwan, but Ijuan in Spanish.

Jeff,  Compared to Java, Bali (including Denpasar) is amazingly clean.  Regarding uncomfortable questions, I lived in Java during the first gulf war and was frequently asked many politically charged questions and the best thing is answer with what you think they would want to hear regardless of your ideology.  It takes some practice if your views are contrary to theirs.

My wife is Chinese-Indonesian and I have been more worried over the years about anti-Chinese racial violence there than anti-western sentiments.  Random acts of terrorism can/does happen anywhere.

Even though I studied Spanish for four years, I can barely speak it  anymore.  Since I speak Indonesian as often as I do English I find that when trying to speak Spanish I unconsciously revert to Indonesian after a sentance or two.

I am Indonesian, and I don't have the same view to some Indonesian... So, I just told them that I don't really want to talk about politics and religions. And being Indonesian in Australia, I sometimes get asked the same thing here, and my answer still the same. It is not worth the trouble... It is the same everywhere :).
