Hi folks, I recall MattyB posting a thread calling for ideas on a name for his place, which he ended up naming "Manambe Lavaka" as we all know. I'd like here to do the same. So please let me hear some naming ideas, I already have some thrown at me by some family, those ideas being:

Spring Creek palms

Bos i Coill (Gaelic meaning "palms in the forest")

Some clues are that my place does have a bush at the back with a small mountain creek, there are native bangalows growing in that bush or forest or whatever you'd like to call it. I've planted a storm of palms already along the sides. Here's some pics for a guide.

Bring it on, anything and everything will be considered even if it simply triggers an idea by myself, that helps, thanks.

Hi Mike, great idea, trouble is finding the translation for the local aboriginal tribe the Gubbi-Gubbi. There is hardly anything online. I found an NT aboriginal tribe language translator and a Sydney group one. For the word "tree" for example, one tribe translates to "WIRIN" and the other to "DIRAMU". I'd prefer the local translation. I could always make one up but it might mean something dastardly.

Looking for any ideas ......still

Beerwal?

Walpalma?

WallyWorld?

Walbanga? (if you were further north it could be Hervey Walbanga!)

Wal, why don't you look at some Aboriginal baby names and incorporate one with another word (like naming a band). Here's some examples of baby names:

Allambee (A quiet resting-place)

Allora (The place of the swamp)

Some Aboriginal names might already be town names in Oz, but I'll leave that up to you. Here's a link to a website for Aboriginal baby names: http://www.babynamen...ame-origins.cfm

Good luck!

The place should be named for what it is until such time that you have transformed it into your place.

Dear Wal :)

If you like historic kings villas name then refer the history books, there are some nature loving kings who planted lots of trees in their life time...In india we had emperor Ashoka,Kanishika & harshavardhana.

If you like some palms or cycad that sounds intresting to your ears you can also keep their name..

In my case if i buy a new property i will keep its name as 'Palm Springs' or 'Phoenix villa'...

Wish you all the best...and happy planting.

Lots of love,

kris :)

love conquers all..
