Yeah! Wait. Is it OK to wish a Happy Birthday here?

Bill, I don't keep my DOB in my profile for security reasons, so I just mentioned it in passing. :winkie:

Paul, going back to the cafeteria.. that lighting arrangement is like something you'd see in London's Tate Modern (art gallery). Do you think it was built as a serious solution to a lighting problem - or is it an art installation?

good question, john.i never went there at night so it was hard to tell if it was all that functional, but i sorta got the feeling it was just for the sake of art. :winkie:

ptychosperma crownshaft, parigata hotel pool main area.

Bali10-2552.jpg

the hotel was walking distance to the beach so we went down to have lunch & a massage at 1 of the spas.here a livistona chinensis tries to look dignified against a background of grafitti.

view from the resto.

Bali10-2564.jpg

"damn,its hot."

& it was.

Bali10-2570.jpg

why is food from the tropics so hot & food from cold places so bland? perhaps the spicy food making one sweat helps cool the body, whereas in a cooler climate it would just make one colder.could also be due to the fact that spices & chilis grow in tropical places & people just used what was at hand.

Bali10-2571.jpg

books with photos of bali in the 1930s were suddenly all the rage & seen in every bookshop.

prices were no different than in the states or on amazon.com so you know its for tourists only.i thumbed thru this & it was actually pretty awesome, especially since balinese women

didnt wear tops until the 1980s.

No way did I enjoy that as much as you did.

Seriously, I felt sad going back into the main forum - didn't want to leave the topic. Kept hitting refresh button, just the same photos each time. I guess it's over. BWAHHHH! Excellent coverage. Thanks Paul and Jess!

Bravo! Crazy running into that guy you met in Mexico. Just weird. Maybe God is telling you that you should marry that guy. I know Jeff Searle will be sad but hey, it's divine intervention, he should understand.

Bali10-1142.jpg

after a looong walk in mid-day tropical sun we found the padang retsaurant.

kind of primitive,i was definitely thinking about all the GI parasites i could get.

Bali10-1144.jpg

i asked them to bring us a few things & they brought out what seemed like everything they had

but i couldnt make them stop,so we just ate as much as we could.

i didnt know what alot of it was but i ate it anyways, even the lung.

Yo Pa-ul. You are not expected to eat everything. They bring out a sampling of everything and you pick/choose what you want and they charge you based on what you eat. Kinda like Sumatran sushi boats. You probably ate half a day worth of their food in one shot. At least they could close up shop early. Bule dongok!
