I posted a photo of that "unidentified" palm a couple years ago and Kyle correctly got at least the genus, Attelea.  Now that I've seen lots of Atteleas (in Puerto vallarta) it's very clearly an Attelea, and I would guess that it's Attelea cohune.  It's at least doubled in size in the last two years.

Attelea!  Ahhhh.  I always get Attelea and Eleisis confused.  I've never seen either in person.  Looks like a D. tsaravoasira (OC) on crack!

Great pictures pohonkelapa. The last time I was in Balboa Park this past spring I also made the most of my time and camera there. More of the same Archontophoenix from a different perspective.

wow I wouldn't mind if you were bored at work more often. Great photos! Is that a Jubaea in the photo two up from this post? The petioles look rather narrow. DId you see the Dypsis lutescens clump they have there?

Scott, Balboa Park is a very large park located just north of Downtown San Diego.  It contains the SD Zoo, golf courses, Aerospace Museum, Ruben H. Fleet Space Theater, Starlight Open Air Theater, Old Globe Theater, Municipal Gymnasium, Botanical Building, Many other museums and stuff that even me, a San Diego native, has never seen.  It's one of the largest urban parks in the US.  It's 208 acres larger than Central Park in NYC. It attracts 13 million visitors each year! The website says they have 18 different gardens.  Palm Canyon is a canyon with lots of palms.

Thanks Matt - That sounds awesome!

My Dad and his wife are coming to visit me in early November, and I thought we'd go to San Diego for a night or so, and maybe even visit Jungle Music. I've never been there, and since his wife is a palm nut also, I thought I'd get her a little one to take back to Oregon. She's got her own palms growin' up there.

This just a week before the San Diego meeting! We should have looked ahead. Maybe I'll come down again for that anyhow.
