Oh!

By the way....this is not Naples, FL, or even Naples, Italy....but Naples, Maine at latitude 44N!

Whoa Larry, am I glad you posted # 3!!!   .....I was begining to think I was having another one of those pesky flashbacks, cause that darn sure isnt the Naples I've seen......

Poor things look a might strung out too, comes from being outside in a place that has 10 months of winter and bad sledding the rest of the time......

Larry: After the second photo I realized "Naples" was a pun. First, knowing you and Larry Sr., I all but knew you wouldn't post a run of the mill adonidia photo (like in the first photo), when you have photos of them that would put them to shame. Secondly, I knew Larry Sr. was in Maine. What I didn't know was that there was a town called Naples in Maine.

I knew you were going to drop the punch line at the end so everyone would understand the photos.

Now I wonder what will become of those palms, and probably starting by next month up there.

Walt-

Seeing as how the average low in October for this area is 32F, I suppose these palms are either going into a greenhouse very soon, or making a trip down south for the winter.

These palms actually dont look too bad considering that there isnt a single summer month in Naples, ME where the night time lows average higher than 55F (July).  The normal January low is 2F.  And, July is the only month where there has not been a freeze sometime in history!

Yeah...Id say they look a bit peekid for sure :D

Maine is certainly not a good place if one is into tropicals, but is a great place to spend the summer.

I grew up there and came down to FL in 1995.  I dont miss the winters, but summers there are generally alot more comfortable than down here.  I say generally as Maine can get downright hot every once in awhile (Florida hot and humid and then some) but there is barely any A/C anywhere!

Larry!

You're a prankster!

But a good one.

Hmm.  Sorta noticed the hills in the background of the row of Foxtails.  Not Florida.

Thanks for the trip!

If Maine is anything like Michigan where I am from, then the average summer is barely any warmer than a south Florida winter, if at all.  Temps in the 70s, low 80s and some cool evenings/nights.  An occasional hot streak than doesn't last very long.

Jim-

Sounds about right.

Here are the avarages for the town in which the palms photographed above are located in.

The winter daytime highs arent too bad relatively speaking, but those nights are nasty.

Any hopes of Areca catechu after seeing the plot above would likely be dashed by this one.....

The more northern part of the state (Fort Kent, ME) doesnt paint quite as rosy of a picture.  They barely manage to stay in the 50's at night in the peak of summer.

And the record lows are just pitiful.  Even in summer freezes can occur.
