Great shots Steve-any photos of your oropedionis?

Thanks Peter! No I did'nt take any pics of the Oropedionus as it was completely covered in weeds and basically looked like it threw 1 frond in 1 year. Maybe this is just a really slow palm. once I weeded around it a spear started to emerge fairly fast. Next time for sure.

Purple new leaf on that Lemur is incredible! I gave up trying to grow those years ago..

You have good taste in colorful, crownshafted palms Steve! It's good to see your garden progressing.. someone has to start competing with Bo :)

(Hey, this is my 1,000th post!!!)

Steve, I could just imagine the shock when you got there and saw your growth from when you left a year ago. You had to be stunned on some of those. I was in looking at the pics.

Shon, They don't groan alone :) . I was groaning too when I saw it but I'm just glad to see it's still alive. It may be one of those palms that needs a year or two in the ground before they take off. Great minds think alike. Storkii was in the first group of palms I purchased and it was the very first palm I planted over there.

Thanks Tim! Looking over the fence at Bo's palms is inspiration enough  . Bo's contribution is the multitude of rare palm seeds germinating in my garden along the fence line :) . Yeah Tim, the second year those Storki's should blow up!

Thanks JD! It's funny cuz you here how touchy and hard Lemurs are to grow but if you have the perfect climate which I believe Leilani is there as easy as king palms. If anybody competes with Bo it certainly won't be me. Bo has a grove of everything  . Congrats on your 1000th post!

Len, The first thing I do like any hardcore palm freak when we get there is look at each and every palm and I was amazed at the growth that some of them had put on in one year!

Deano, I thought about stopping by but we had my 16 year old son Ty with us and at his age he would rather be looking at girls than palms  . All kidding aside we spent one day at Hapuna beach chillin and snorkeling and the other day at the Waikiloa Hilton which is pretty much disneyland in Hawaii. We'll have to hook up next time.

Take care,

Peachy, They call her Mad Fox because she is from Madagascar and has a very plumose frond similar to a foxtail. The botanical name is Dypsis Marojejy. If you can find one get it! You want be disapointed.

One of my favorite places to hike on the big island is the Waipio valley. It is a valley of much historical significance and much of the taro/poi that supplies Hawaii is farmed here to this day. Here is a view from the cliffs above.

This time we hiked towards the back of the valley. This is one of the biggest waterfalls in Hawaii and it was raining alot that morning so it was flowing pretty good.

Ty and I crossed the river and hiked to the zig zag trail on the other side. The river was quite cold as it's runoff from the mountains. We hiked to the historical sites at the other end of the valley where ancient energies abound. A big coconut had just fell and cracked perfectly in half so we drank the juice and ate the coconut meat inside :mrlooney: . It was excellent! We did not bring our camera over there though so no pics. Here is a pic of Ty and me crossing the chilly river.
