Quail Botanical Garden

I spent a few days conducting business in SoCal.  At the tail end of my trip, I met up with Jack "El Hoagie" Sayers and Danny "Palmazon" Lewis.  Thanks guys for spending a few hours with me.  The night tour of Danny's grenhouse was quite an experience.  I've got to get one of those clicking flashlights...LOL.

Here are some photos I took at Quail Botanical Gardens.

Ray,

Quail is a nice place. Great photos, and the array of colors on those Arenga seeds in the first post is just amazing!

Ray, great photos!  …..the bamboo pics are great, reminded me of the forest of it I saw in Japan.

What is the last pic, the silver blue plant? It looks like a succulent? Looks like it might be pretty small.....

Ray:

Looks like you had a really killer visit, and your Quail experience rocked.

Hmm.  Get a picture of the Caryota gigas lining the back driveway to the extra parking.  I was there a couple of years ago, and they were starting to get awesome looking.

I wish my Rhopies looked that good.

And, you couldn't ask for better hosts than Jack and Danny.

best

Ray,

I'm glad we met up while you were out here.  Lindsey and I had a good time at dinner, and during the night tour of Palmazon's nursery...

Ray- Sorry I missed you...I thought you were gonna be further North.....Did you go by Jungle Music also?   (Since there were basically on the other side of the freeway...)

Did you get to the Huntington?

OK- another question, did you see the Reclinata X Roebillinii?

With its multicolored Palm bases? green, orange, yellow...It was after seeing those I went to look for some on my own..

I had a blast out there.  Yes Bill, I made it to Jungle Music but Phil was out of town for a couple of weeks.  After Jungle Music, I hit QBG, then up the interstate to San Juan Capistrano.  I spent a couple of hours at the mission and then up the PCH to "avoid" the traffic on the 5.  Danny guided me up to his place from there.

The Huntington is on the agenda for the next trip out there.

Ray, do take the time to see the Big H when you get out here again.

Stop by my place, too, if you like.

And, Louis Hooper's, which is nearby.  He's got an older garden, full of treasures.  Mine's newer and, well, more . . . .
