Shon, the Cyphosperma balanse was starting to get "the gangsta lean" like Howeas do, so Dean cut the spear off in an effort to right it.  I thought I'd not show it in all it's nakedity.  It's a sicky-poo right now.  :(  Maybe Dean will show some.  I failed to take a pic of the Dypsis 'kingaly'...which I think is actually a Ravenea.

Paul, I will not be posting any pics of the new greenhouse as there will be no internet connection in there and that's where I'll be living from here on out.

And Matt,

Do you want the ID on the above palm now, or do you want the group to venture a few guesses first?

Did you guys go on Saturday?   Would this explain this missing attendance of Paul and Bob at the Palm tour?  I never seem to see Matt or Dean at them....

Yeah, let's let us guess first.  Someone will probably get it pretty easily.  I'll go first.  Uhhhhh.....shoot...I don't know!

Dean, You've got some wonderful stuff and very healthy large specimens and I'm glad your not a zone 11 grower, but a 10a, which means whatever you grow, we have half a chance over here in the wild west of OZ of growing it. Your Clinostigma is getting some nice trunk. What does the rest of it look like? Hedyscepe, D decipiens and Kingali look great. Also the Laccospadix has such wonderful colour. Is yours the clumping form?

I guess in the Livistona or Brahea variety....... yeah, I know that covers a good 20 palms at least, but I gotta start somewhere..

I am MUCH looking forward to the "Rainbow Spouting" Palm!!!

Great photos.  Dean I'd love to see your garden some day, I missed an opportunity a few weeks back (with Steve in SD).  It's party hard to find the time with a 5 year old a 2 year old and a six week old at home!

That fan palm, since it's unarmed, rules out most Brahea (unless nitida) and all livistona (at that size).  Unsplit leaf bases rules out Sabal, Latania, Bismarkia.   But then it doesn't look like Pritchardia, Thrinax, or Coccothrinax to me.  So I guess I'll guess Brahea nitida.

No Walivistona, it does not.  :)

Bill got closer, and Matt nailed it. He wins a tour of the garden when I am next in town. Matt, I'll be back in town Oct. 1. Remind me when that date gets close and I'll be happy to show you around. You obviously know your palms.

Tyrone, the rest of the Clinostigma looks good. If you were a member of the So. Cal. Palm Society, and received the Spring Journal, you would have seen pics of that palm and some nicer ones growing in So. Cal. And articles about growing it and others in So Cal. including a killer article from Don Hodel. In fact, for anyone out there, the So Cal Palm Journal is awesome. And for those like Tyrone, in marginal subtropical zones, you should log in to their website now, and subscribe. You will not regret it.

Re: the Laccospadix. I have both. The pic is the solitarty form. At least I think it is, as it hasn't suckered yet and is close to forming trunk. The clumping form, as far as I know, does not throw a red leaf. I would like to know if anyone has a clumper that throws red leafs. And be careful, I have seen the red form mostly planted as multiples.

No Matt, those are three individual plants. All of the red leaf form I have seen have been planted as multiples. I have heard they very occasionally sucker, but I've never seen it.

I have a Laccospadix that definitely has sent off a few suckers and the new leaves are very red (more red than one of my Chambeyronias).  I got it from Rancho Soledad.  The plant has two main trunks now (the larger just about trunking now) which may have been multi-planted, but I have removed a few little suckers that have popped up since I planted it.  So there is a suckering form that throws a very red leaf.

Some of you know....I and the bank joined the small group of people who are owned by this palm...Dean, Gary Levine, Louis Hooper I believe, Ron Lawyer....

OK- Well, I'm owned by it, the others had to get one thru hard earned ways I suspect also!

Crazy I am!
