I must say, those Royals ARE a sight to see up close.

I was down in Bradenton this morning w/ my daughter hittin' some 4-6'rs... She loves her boogie boardin'...

AnyHoot, on the way home I decide to 86 the interstate and take US41... That'd take me right up to those Royals I posted about before...

Anyways, the place is evidently closed on Saturdays, but I've gotta make a weekday trip one day to do a tour or something... But here's what I could get from the locked gate:

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea it was a sort of a park now, I just imagined it was someone's old private house. So on weekdays you can go in for a free tour or something? That's cool those royals have been there since at least 1919- that's NINETY years at least and counting! It is tantalizing to see those, because I live so close yet I'm so far from being able to grow royals long term.

It will change the way I look at them whenever I pass them in the future.

Very cool pictures. I was not aware of that place either. Those royal palms are certainly very majestic-looking. Their south Florida slash pines look really healthy too. Thanks, I'll have to check that place out.

Yeah, I never knew it was a park either. This was my first time looking for it...

What a adventure looking up at the skyline while your driving around looking for the tall Royals...

I was looking for canopy, not the road! :)

I would guess they'd do tours, it didn't say anything on the boards outside the gate...

Might have to check Manatee Cty's website or something... ?

These here were on Terra Ceia Rd. on the way to the Haley house:

20+ feet shorter than the ones at the house...

The same ones, back door view.

I275's traffic was buzzin' by in back of me on this one... Although I wasn't on it, it seemed like it...

Coconuts are my favorite, but royals are a close second. I love them, especially growing in their native habitat. I have a Cuban Royal and a Florida Royal in my backyard.

Checked out the Haley house today. The gate was still closed, so I called the number on the sign out front with all of the history info on it. It's apparently not open to the public. The guy on the phone didn't tell me if they were ever planning on making the park public, just that I couldn't go inside the gate. What a bummer.

I did get this nice picture from the gate though.
