Thanks for the photos. Do you know if the tourism was down because of the swine flu? Chichen Itza doesn't appear to be too crowded in your pix.

Yes, I believe that's true, although it was still chaotic at the entrance.

One thing I noticed was how brazen people are in Mexico at attracting business. Our group stopped in Campeche to order a meal at a roadside restaurant, and a young man across the road started whistling to attract our attention, waved a menu in the air and said "over here, my friends". This was in spite of the fact that we had already ordered and been seated for some time. Meanwhile, our waiter looked across at him, stony-faced.

At Merida, there was a small semi-indoor pool at our hotel. There was a barman standing at a small bar by the pool. He was there when I left to go out at 8am, and still there when I got back at 4pm, and stood there for at least another hour while I was in the pool. I don't think anyone bought a drink the whole day, apart form me (I bought a Coke)

It appears that there is such an over-supply of labour in this part of the world that businesses run differently. I don't think this type of situation would be tenable in Australia.

Great pics. I know that those are Sabals of some sort, based on the location I'm gonna guess S.gretheriae - its kind of hard to tell, cause most of those down there don't have trunks ( well, the ones I saw anyways.)
