Poison Weed in DR

Am not sure but its still itching my ankles: Rob Branch wearing shorts got it on his legs.

Any ideas guys what this pesky substance is?

I guess it must also be endemic to Haiti and other parts of the Carribean.

Thanks

John,

Sorry to hear that you are still feeling the effects of this awful rash that so many people got while over there. Andrea, the Glocks, Paul Norris and Murray Corman all have recovered by now. Ryan and I was totally lucky somehow on not touching this tree.

First I heard about that happening to some of those on the trip to DR.  Nothing happened to me for which I'm glad.  When did you first notice it or feel the itching?  That might give you an indication as to where that particular plant was located.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Al,

After talking to others, some of them think it might of been at the location where we were dropped off at from the helicopter to see the P. ekmannii. But not totally positive.

Yeah, I agree with Jeff because thats where I first noticed it near the P.eckmanni.

I regret chucking some surplus food away as maybe those kids who were watching us could have used it although I believe their parents were paid (?) to let us use their field.

Anyway that itching is going off now but wow that was even more irritating than my Bank Manager!

UK John,

Sounds good! I think you really had a bad case of it, to last this long. Well, it will always be a memory from this biennial.
