1 year Before and After

Hey Yall,

Well, its been a productive year at my house as far as palms go. I just past my 1 year mark at palmtalk and I have learned an unreal amount of knowledge on palms. My yard is now quite a pleasure to look at and enjoy. Palmtalk has been a valuable resource to me and I am glad that I can share now from my own palm experiences. My backyard was basically all grass with no privacy at all and with the idea of a natural fence, bamboo was brought to my attention and eventually lead to my palm obsession. Its so hard not to make these posts picture intense so I'll do my best. So, after one year, this is my progress.

The front yard had all the triple adonidias when I moved into the house in 2006 but the rest, I added.

Also, in less than 3 months, we are expecting our first child( a girl). So lets hope I have time to keep my yard in shape with a new baby. She will think her dad such a nerd.

Thanks to all of you that have helped me along the way,

PG

That's quite a dramatic change! You've been working very hard, and the results are in the photos, gorgeous!

That's a spectacular look! I'm convinced you'll be influencing some of your neighbors to plant more palms as well. And congratulations! I'm sure your daughter, when she's old enough, will be proud of your accomplishments! :)

Very nice landscape work...

Still lots of space for new palms though. What is the Pritchardia sp near the house?

Congrats.

VERY NICE buddy.

Do you use that weed x or weed stopper mat/plastic under your mulch?

My mulchin's only look like that for a month or so... :(

And how big were those bamboos when planted... (wall)

Thanks.

Very nice, Patrick!

You took that all too common, nasty Florida angularity and cookie-cutter look away from your yard, and by doing so, created an outdoor "room" this WILL be gorgeoud as the yeras pass!

CONGRATS, on a very eye-pleasing bit of Floridiana!

Yes, indeedy, a very fine job. Congrats on that and the new baby girl. My boys call me a nerd, but deep down, I know that are palmophiles (well, maybe not).

Great job!!! Looks awesome and congrats on your upcoming arrival. And take heart, my 15 year old daughter occasionally lets loose with a couple of palm names and even if she's guessin', at least she's listenin'. Take that from a confirmed nerd dad. :winkie:

What is the Pritchardia sp near the house?

Gileno, The pritchardia next to the house is a Pacifica and I have a P Becariana that will go in the ground this summer.

Ray,

Yes, I use weed mat under most of my non curbed beds...some do not though. Dollar weeds and crab grass are my biggest weed problems. Now that I have a good mulch base built up (4 inches") I usually just put a light topper of mulch twice a year to freshen it up.

All the bamboo was in 7 gal containers. I have 4 variety: Alphonse Karr in the middle and going out Textilis Gracilis, Blue Chungii, Sunburst bamboo. Only one has started to shoot this year. I look forward to the growing season.

This is right after I planted the bamboo March 15 2008

And thanks to all for the the kudos, as most of you know, its alot of work feeding a palm obsession.
