I prefer overnight temps a bit warmer.  A bit, not too much.  I don't know what it is here, but I have the A/C on.

And my Fine-Leaf has a new frond :)

This could be a serious situation if forecasts hold up.  A vast pool of Arctic air spilled into coastal Washington/Oregon.  Snow is not unheard of in Seattle/Portland but rarely this early and this cold.  And scary   :o  :o

Meteorological community has been taken by surprise. Arctic advection favor an east direction as systems move onshore from the Pacific.  This time the air flow is also due southwest as Yukon ice engulfs the Puget South.  Gardeners are taking a direct hit   :(

How far the freezing line penetrates into California & Arizona is the issue.  Thus far, the models have overstated the temperatures though there is the normal wide margins depending on terrian / proximity to water.  Here's todays readings for metro Orange/San Diego:

37.6 in open area and 41.2 in the sheltered areas last night at my house,  but now these winds and Humidity in the teens is what is concerning me.  Tonight according to the Weather channel.com isn't supposed to be quite as cold, we'll see.

I think Florida is a big tease for the most part. Really nice almost TROPICAL conditions most of the time then a big cold front comes through and you see one night of 22 F and it is all lost. Well, it is nice weather for humans anyway as I am hardy to at least -25F for short durations! It is no surprise that it is cold out west when it is warm out east as this often seems to be the case. I hope that no one has any losses due to cold or frost.

At 5:50AM it was 11°C/52°F, so added to the rest of the mild weather we have had in November, the monthly average should be in the exceptionally above average category.  I doubt we will break any records this month, because we had a freak November in 1994, which was over 1°C warmer than the second warmest on record, but this month may well be quite close.  It is also likely to be the warmest Autumn since about 1763, although extensive, official figures only date back to 1914.  Last year was the previous warmest Autumn in the series from 1914, but this year has been much warmer.

I guess the palm trees are not doing too well up in Great Falls, Montana my hometown.  My dad has been telling me for several days that the temperatures have been hovering below zero.  They had a warm blast yesterday and it got up to 10 F.  At least there is a lot of snow in the mountains which is good.

November's summary from my little plot....overall we were significantly below average temp-wise, but there were no really bad temps logged as the absolute low was 45.9F.

Im not sure how my weather station calculates wind chill, but I am skeptical of the minimum shown in the data record as at that time shown, the temp was 51.1F and the winds were at 10 mph, with gusts to 18 mph.  Would those conditions calculate to the wind chill value shown below?

There are 30 entries in the selected almanac file

Average High for November was 80F and average low was 50.3F.  The average low was right on with other years but the high was about 6 degrees above normal.  I'm sure it would have been higher but the last 7 to 8 days have been well below normal. I guess it all balances out.

As I said the official figures only date back to 1914.  I doubt the integrity of figures for 1763.  I have no idea of the source for such figures, but I certainly wouldn't expect any degree of accuracy back then.  Apart from anything else, there would not have been sufficient data to give an accurate average for the whole of England & Wales.
