Jungle Music's 14th Anual Spring Sale and BBQ

OK Matt. This is how you get them back. Ready....?

1) Grab one of Phil's ads from the PSSC Journal. The one that has a bunch of bullets. One is "Everything is for sale".

2) Go to the section in the greenhouse where Shon, Bill and Rusty horde their Dypsis.

3) Pick out some of those plants and take them to Phil.

4) If he says he can't sell them cause they are tagged, tell him you would hate to scream "False Advertising".

5) Walk out with their plants.

Don't tell anyone I told you this.

haha!!!! See!!! That is the cutest little palm ever!!! I open it up to a vote! Who thinks that's a rad palm? Who thinks it's cheesecloth, like Rusty and Shon do? By the way, there's at least (3), 5 gallons left just like that one out in the sun on the north side, one of them is a multi I think.

My wife doesn't allow me to say that "c" word, but I think it is a really killer palm. Nice find Matty

I think it looks great, but I love Trachys. I already have 11 in the ground, and probably 15 more sitting in pots...

Matty, you could grow it in a little terrarium. Plant a sweet little Chamadorea elegans and a baby Lytocarium next to it. Create a magical little palmscape by adding unicorns and $h!+.

Luke and Matty B, Shon and Len,

I have to remain friends with all you guys so, in a neutral way, I'll say it's "interesting". But, I'd like your opinion on this little fellow below; I'd like to add another fan to my garden. Or, would most of you choose Matty B's plant. Trachycarpus is a broad genus with different appearing species. I'll comment more later, and especially on T. latisectus.

T. Latisectus is a nice palm Phil, I have one in my garden. I am surprised it is not used more often, but most people here the name Trachycarpus and shy away.

Thats a nice one pictured above. Is this a Trachycarpus as well? oreophilus?

The regular fortunei's grow well here in our rich clay soil. I need to experiment with more species of this genus.

edit: check the name of the file: http://www.pacsoa.org.au/palms/Pritchardio...jeanneneyi.html

now everyone will go 'googoo and gaga'

Luke,

No one really took the bait. Yes, that's a Pritchardiopsis, perhaps the most rare palm in the world. Who knows how many there are around, but it's perhaps less than 100. At one point about 20 years ago it was feared there were none left in its natural habitat in New Caledonia. At this stage above, It looks like Trachycarpus latisectus in a way. The picture above is from the PACSOA website and taken by Rolf Kybruz, an Australian seedsman now retired.

My point here was that here's a palm that 1) is unbelievably rare 2) no one has 3) is quite beautiful 4) is from New Caledonia. A fair trade for one of these would be all of one's entire New Caledonia collection plus more. And, it's just a Trachycarpus look-alike.

Matty,

I'm with you and Phil, that little palm is as CUTE as a button, even if it is cold hardy and somewhat common! :mrlooney:

Tiny little character leaves at a very young age, very cool, unfortunately they don't do so well here!

Has a somewhat similar look to Tahina spectabilis even, well kinda, (early character fronds) anybody think they are butt-ugly?
