mexico cruise with pohonkelapa

Recommended Posts

paulgila

i was invited by my friend tracy to go on an 8-day cruise to mexico with her family for her husband mark's 50th birthday(tracy is the mother of lauren, who accompanied me to bali last year).i have never been on a cruise before so i thought "what the heck, sounds fun."i had no idea what to expect.

part I: "the embarkationing."

Picture001.jpg

tracy & mark.they kinda remind me of lucy & ricky from "i love lucy," the stereotypes are ALL there.

Picture002.jpg

Picture003.jpg

hey look,theres me!

Picture004.jpg

i saw "the poseidon adventure" 27 times when i was a kid so i was a little nervous.if i'd seen ernest

borgnine i woulda jumped off the ramp.

so at nite when you go to the fancy dining room for dinner you gotta look decent.

Picture060.jpg

i am a big advocate of novelty socks.

Picture063.jpg

this is what it looks like if yer me & yer looking at yer shoes to see if they are on the right feet.

i never once managed to take my camera to the dining room.

part III: the 1st day at sea.

i drank a latte at dinner the night before so i didn't sleep at all the 1st nite, which made it easier to hear my room mate "peter"

snoring & talking in his sleep all nite.

he'd say things like "what?i have a hernia?," or "what? i lost ALL my money?" or just laugh hysterically between 90 db snores.

Picture064.jpg

coast of baja california goes by while i try to revive myself.

Picture065.jpg

sitting on deck reading, admittedly not the BEST book to read on a cruise.

there was cannibalism involved.in the book.

something about this fascinated me.

Picture074.jpg

kinda like "towering inferno" meets a scene from "spinal tap."you know which one, where the bass player can't break outta

that weird embryo-thing.

Picture077.jpg

had to wear a suit & tie that nite for dinner.

this was when i realized i look like michael stipe from REM except with good skin.

Picture080.jpg

after dinner i followed twacy around to watch her gamble.

her husband didnt feel well for the 1st few days on board.

those 2 comments are not related.

Great tour, and looking forward to the next installment. I'm getting cabin fever already.

I think you posted one of your photos upside down. I made it more "Poseidony".

dewd,

that was some good one-liners with the pictures. u already have me laughing and waiting for some more.

but you in the monkey suit? omg....i had to take the double take to make sure that was really you. and i see you even got a haircut before you went. Smart, you look good.

So, by now you must be out to sea heading maybe to sunny south florida? You should arrive here just in time for our big sale in a couple of weeks. I just knew you were really coming. just give me a call and i'll pick you up at the docks.

Look forward to more pictures, and as they say here on Palmtalk......"love your pics".

Paul...You picked the WRONG ship! I don't know about San Diego, but we usually board from San Pedro. There is always one ship for "family" and one ship for "singles"...Of course, I haven't been on the "single" ship since I got married. :mrlooney:

Well then... you shoulda gone after "Bertha the bildge queen" Every cruise ship has one. I found myself cornered by her once  She just about ripped my rudder off, and I spent the rest of the cruise hiding in a lifeboat :)

here i am saying "kill him!kill him!kill him!"

Picture088.jpg

here are some crew members i met.coincidentally most of them were indonesian & many from bali.

they all had name tags with their nationality plainly displayed thereupon,so as i passed them i'd casually say "good day" in

indonesian & watch the inevitable unbelieving looks they'd give.the balinese t-shirt i wore in the previous photo

also led to gaping,slack-jawed stares from the indonesian staff.
