I’m not with the get a new one when they come out crowd. Before this I had an iPhone 4 for like 6 years lol. Thank you, even though I don’t deserve it. I have quite a few pics I’ve taken over the years where the stars align just right and I’m surprised at how it turns out. I think more than half the battle is being in the right place at the right time.

Yes.. right spot at the right time is a big deal.. Is a really big deal when getting pictures while storm chasing.. Just look over Mike Olbinski ..or other storm chaser / photographers Twitter pages.. timing is everything, and sometimes someone else is in that perfect location..

As decent as some of the shots are i have been able to get from the house, i'd really like to be somewhere a touch higher.. or where i can see some of the hills nearby better / have more " wide open sky "  to play with..  Especially when trying to capture shots of Lightning. Have already scouted a couple spots close to the house i may try to set up at if or when the right conditions come together.

Used to do this all the time when i lived in KS, even at 11PM or midnight.  Things being a bit different these days, not sure hanging out in the field of a school that late would go over w/ some people living nearby though, lol.

W / all the moisture/ clouds moving up from Baja  and off mainland Mexico atm, keep an eye on the sky today/ tomorrow ...Maybe into early Thursday ( at least around the heart of S. Cal. )  Issuing an " Epic Sunrise/ Sunset " advisory,  as well as an " Interesting Skies " alert..

There was a terrific sunset last night, but I was not in a place to get a pic... Thanks again for the heads up...

We were completely overcast around sunset yesterday, but could see it was probably quite a show somewhere well west of Phoenix where it was clear  ..or at least not as cloudy as here.

Yes, and no, haha..

Would have had better Lightning shots had last night's storm not slid jusstt to my south / southwest, literally around Chandler and the rest of this side of town.  What other " decent " shots were captured will be in this year's Monsoon thread, up in the WX section.. Some good, aiming for better ..with what i have for now.  Hoping, if we see more tonight, storms get a little closer. Big Goal this season is a few big, bright ( and crispy ) bolts over the view directly east ( out front )  Hopefully w/ the Washingtonia in the street island in view in a couple as well.   We'll see what happens.

Last night's wild sunset.  Strong/ severe storms roared through as anticipated, but dropped little rain across most of the Valley ( completely missed again at the house ).. Those who saw some, saw a lot, and some Hail though ( Queen Creek, parts of San Tan < far S.E. side of town > ). Tucson had better overall conditions and saw more widespread rainfall.

Regardless, pretty good sunset.

A good teaser as the current monsoon season nap slowly awakens.  Storm here is over Ajo and the Tohono O'dham Nation wayy south of Chandler, much closer to the U.S. / Mexico border, not too far east of Organ Pipe Nat. Monument.

Same storm spun up a radar - detected Tornadic circulation, but, as far as i've seen when checking in on local storm chasers in the area, no actual tornado.  Unfortunately, due to persistent " Zonal " west to east steering right now, this beast is loosing steam before it gets a chance to try and build north / northeast toward this side of the valley / into Phoenix itself.  Might get a little dust, though w/ all the rain that has fallen over the desert between here and further south, not much area left to generate much of it.

Regardless, a good sign the season isn't done yet..  and a pretty nice sunset too.

Not long before sunset, just after the Tornado Warning was issued for the storm.

A couple from last night as a line of stronger storms was clearing out to the east as a transition season cold front ushering in an extended monsoon break sweeps on through.

Not the greatest, but finally something after quite a break, and lots of bad-timing when there could have been one ( on the part of how much clouds were in the sky / placement in the sky around sunset )
