Yesterday morning's sunrise was really spectacular here in Southern California Butch.  Glad you caught it with a camera.  I was out surfing so have to rely on my internal memory banks to remember the dazzling colors of the sky reflecting off the ocean as I looked toward shore.

Yes, it was just amazing Tracy... I didn't even get the earlier, best part of it photo'ed... I wish a had had a better camera with me, to do it justice... You as a surfer, and me as a surf fisherman, do get to see some great sunrises/sunsets... It sure is a beautiful world we live in...

Another desert stunner from this past weekend..

While kind of blurry, ( Camera's battery was almost exhausted ) bright " spot " just to the left of the taller building near the horizon of pic. # 2 is a pretty dramatic example of the top of a Sun Pillar.. Another one of those " Sun hitting/reflecting off Ice Crystals at just the right angle "  kind of Optical Phenomena.

Merry Christmas!  It was a beautiful Christmas Eve here in Leucadia.  Took my camera with me for the dog walk and caught the full range of sunset shots as it changed.

While neither sunset nor sunrise it does fit in the same bucket; a moon setting capture instead.  A hand held camera phone just doesn't quite capture the same results in bad light like a real lens on a good camera with a tripod will do in low light.  Ponto Jetty in South Carlsbad before sunrise this morning with lights in Oceanside and the Oceanside Pier seen over the top of the jetty.  Some offshore winds were grooming the dropping swell.

I liked the silhouettes of these palms against the sky last night.  Unfortunately, my house was blocking the better part of the sunset which was much better as I walked the dog to the west a few minutes later without a camera.

Pretty wild one this evening..

There would be a tree here blocking this view.. ( was the 3rd Chilean Mesquite in my neighbor's yard that was damaged last summer. Just a 12' stump now. Hopefully it grows back, before summer, if it does at all. )

In my neighborhood too!  Great sunset over the ocean, but couldn't resist getting the sky behind the North Leucadia classic "Roberto's" taco shop with the Syagrus in silhouette.

I didn't have my camera with me for the great sunrise this morning so it was time to take a walk in the neighborhood for the sunset this evening.  Even though the swell had dropped through the day, there were still a few clean little waves to draw out some beach goers for a sundown session.  I just hope there will still be some swell left in the morning :D.

A couple of photos as I was leaving the office this evening.  First is looking over the Silver Strand at north end of Imperial Beach and the other is looking south at Imperial Beach as a storm works its way to this Southwestern corner of California.

Pretty wild end to another nice afternoon. Wasn't sure passing cloud cover would allow for more than some muted color as the sun  set.. Good thing i payed attention.  Sky today, dominated by various icy Cirrus types, and passing sheets of various forms of Cirro and Alto stratus, lent lots of that Molasses/ Gold stained glass look to the sky just before sunset. Easily in the top 10 best sunsets i have captured here..

Lots of different angles to capture/ stuff going on tonight = lots of pictures..

If i had a better camera, could have captured more images since tonight's sunset kept smouldering well after the sun had disappeared below the horizon.. Lingered so long in fact that there was still detectable color in the clouds closest to the horizon at 6:45..  Last picture i took was at 6:16PM.   Sundown tonight here was at 6:01.   Pretty impressive. Wish i could have caught this spectacle somewhere w/ a better background ( local mountains/cacti, etc ).

Storm clouds rolling in all day, but it didn't rain at home since last night around 3am.  Perhaps more tonight and tomorrow they say and these clouds look like they can deliver.

While taking photos of the sunset last night a dolphin was having fun feeding on a bait ball.  They often use the larger waves to get speed up to chase fish to the shallower water giving the school fewer places to escape.  This is often followed up by the free Sea World show of them jumping out the backside of the wave.  So I just waited for it to pop up and get the shot.  Second photo is a crop of the original to hone in on the dolphin.

Last night drew a lot of people to the shoreline to view the sunset.  I was driving home from work and stopped in Solana Beach next to Pill Box (also known by the newbies as Fletcher Cove) to catch this moment in time at Sunset.  I loved the depth and layering of the clouds.

Tonight's show, after a month and a half hiatus... Sky could have been a touch clearer toward the west / more  crispy " warm season " AltoCu tossed in for more effect, but, this will do as " Sunset season " gears up, and the clock ticks down to the final sunset while here in AZ.   I'll do my best to bring some of the show west for the summer.. :winkie:

Cloud " canvass " for the evening performance courtesy of subtropical moisture moving N.E. overhead from the E. Pacific.  Also kept temperatures in check somewhat thru the afternoon. ( only briefly topped 90F )

Warm up, as the sun sets :

It is fun to watch how the colors change as the sunset progresses.  We are getting the subtropical clouds coming over today.  We actually got a few large drops of rain earlier that immediately evaporated because its warm and dry at ground level.

You guys also had a few high- based T- Storms around before dawn / early morning ( closer to / over Los Angeles ) as well..  Waiting to see if the same system will offer up a decent sunset here. Passing batches of clouds were thicker earlier, then headed up over the Rim. Looks like more are trying to form to the west.  Was 94F and if the clouds thicken up as the low passes overhead tonight, as suggested in the forecast, might not drop below the upper 60s. Little sticky too w/ the wind coming from the southeast today.

Yesterday at dawn here it was clear but by 7am the clouds were apparent on the southern horizon working their way north and inland.  There were great clouds all day long, then when I went down for the sunset, most of the clouds had cleared on the coast and the better clouds were over the inland mountains.  It was still a beautiful sunset.

Sunset never panned out here.. Developing batch of clouds overhead scooted off  to the north before the sun  set. Bigger batch to the west blocked any good light from reaching nearer clouds. Guess everything in the sky yesterday was at the same height at that time.

We did end up seeing isolated, high based storms through the evening though just to my west/ north. Had the moon been in an ideal spot, would have made for some nice night time shots since each individual " cell " would quickly mature and send out a narrow Anvil overhead/ present blobs of Virga below as they passed by.  Can see the last of today's activity disappearing over the rim/mountains to the east.

Next sunset opportunity should come Sunday/ Monday as another batch of high clouds is supposed to pass through and out there.
