A short trip to Tenerife

I could not resist a €60 return ticket from Seville to Tenerife so I packed my biggest suitcase with some plants for the Palmetum; no palms since they have more species than me :mrlooney: , but Dracaena cinnabari, Uncarina decaryi and some Pachypodium species.

Seville is about 2,5 hours by car from where I live, all in all the whole trip took 5 hours.

Santa Cruz is a small bustling city, unfortunately not many authentic buildings were left after the post Franco building boom but the street plantings were outstanding, Roystonea, Hyophorbe,Dypsis were everywhere next to the more common Phoenix and Washingtonia. Cycas revoluta and C.rumphii, enormous Ficus and Pandanus a sure sign of the prominent nursery trade on the Canary Islands.

I picked up some Ravenea Krociana, 2 Chuniophoenix hainanensis, Ceroxylon amazonicum, Archontophoenix purpurea at Viveros Subtropicales and ordered some Carpoxylon macrospermum to be delivered in Spain as they were too big for the suitcase (which was pretty full anyway)

Some street shots(3) from Santa Cruz followed by Palmetum Pix, unfortunately when we visited the Palmetum it was clouded and there was a slight drizzle every now and then but the enthousiastic and competent, multilingual comments from Carlo Morici made it all worthwhile for the group that consisted of Spanish,Belgian,Dutch,German and Cuban nationals.

It was fun switching languages from Flemish to German to Dutch and to my meager Spanish

Pix are : tiled house in santa Cruz. Dypsis lutescens in local park, Pandanus furcatus in the same park, Arenga pinnata in the Palmetum and Arenga westerhoutii idem

Great photos! I used to go to an internet cafe down the street from that purple building!

I'm always up for learning new things!
