I wouild like to get an outdoor grown sun ready D. decipiens to put in the ground this spring. I have bought three 15 gallon plants all grown outdoors and all dead. What could I be doing wrong? I buy the plant, put it in the ground, give it a lot of attention and they have all died. This has been since March. I am almost $600.00 in to it and have nothing. I will try one more time. I thought that these were an easy grow in So Cal.

Thanks in advance.

I am in no way an expert, but the advice I got was to treat it like a cycad which I did. My climate is very different than yours but for what it's worth here is how I'm growing mine. Mine is a small one about 2gal size. I put it in a high and dry spot that gets a good bit of full sun for about 6hrs and then bright indirect light for the rest of the evening. I planted it in a cycad mix I made of potting soil, corse cypress mulch, osmocote, sand, and peat moss. I watered it the day I planted it and never watered it again. I put it in the ground sometime this past spring. It is pushing it's 3rd leaf since then. Not sure how helpful this info is since we get tons of rain here and our climates are so different.
