Coconut growth rates

My coconut has really taken off this year. I felt that it was only an average grower over the past couple years. Maybe the roots have reached down to the water table now? Anyway, I am curious how fast other people's coconuts have grown.

It is interesting that the coconut is growing with the same lean that it had as a sprout. Keep that in mind if you plan to plant one. this one unfortunately is growing with a lean towards my house.

I have one thats been a rocket ship. I found it floating in a canal. This is 16 months from seed. Needless to say I'm very pleased. Tip of tallest frond is at 9ft. I have one planted only 2 months after this one thats half the size.

In a 15g container for 10 months when it finally went in the ground.

I planted 5 coconuts I bought on Pine Island in 2000. They had about a foot of trunk then and I would estimate about 12 to 14 feet now. I would think 15 inches of trunk a year would be about right for Southwest Fla. Up in parts north, I would guess the cooler winter winter would reduce that quite a bit.

They do seem to be really quite fast which makes them worth growing even in marginal areas of 9B that come close to being 10A, like where I live. They look awsome even as young, non-trunking specimens. I think am just about at the inland northern limit on the west side of FL for having any kind of chance with coconuts. Mine does slow down quite a bit for a couple months in winter, but it never does stop growing.

This coconut is a little over a year old. It was about 1 foot tall when I got it.
