NEW WARNING POLICY - PLEASE READ

PALM MOD

Recommended Posts

The PalmTalk Web Committtee has decided to institute a new policy directed at curbing some of the rude, impolite, and hostile behavior floating around the Forum lately. It is a refinement of an existing policy, and one we wish to make sure everyone is aware of.

It could be considered a "Three Strikes You're Out" policy. Those members who can not abide by the few and simple guidelines we have here will be issued an unofficial warning to make sure they understand they are in danger of receiving an "official" warning. The first official warning will result in a one week suspension, the second is a two week suspension, and with a third one you're gone. Your can view your "Warning" status under your name, next to your posts.

Of particular concern at the moment are the recent rancorous postings from some of our members. We will not allow snide, mocking, and taunting comments --- public or otherwise. Be forewarned that Private Messages, if reported, will be covered by this same criteria. And don't think cute little spiteful innuendos will be overlooked or tolerated. If you can't discuss an issue or disagreement without bitter and vindictive language, then don't do it here. For those of you who have been doing so, consider this your unofficial warning.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Dean-O,

I too appreciate this. Way too much negativity here lately! And for what??

I've opened up a few threads lately and thought "???"

Not sure if the economy is getting to certain people or what but I tend to

just ignore the negative comments.

Tad, I can't speak for Mr. Moderator, but I assume that the good natured "snarky" as we all know and love here on the forum is gonna be fine. We can all see what's meant to be funny ribbing between friends and what's meant to be a disguised smack down between people who have issues with each other. If snarky is out then we all better pack our bags.

Where do you mean "under your name, next to your posts"?

If we don't have any demerits, does anything show up?

Couldnt we just get a swear jar fund? like if you make a off color comment you mail dean a quarter?

Dean could use the money to set up a shelter for abused and abandoned palms, to help them get off the streets and into a home or garden where they wont be starving to death, or abused by palm predators. A safe haven where they can go if they feel they have no where left!!

Then once rehabilitated they can be put up for adoption, the adoptor must pay a fee for the palms shots, and care, and then that money could also go back into the Dypsis Dean home and garden for wayward palms and fallen cycads.

Mod Edit: How about a 'Tip Jar' for abused and abandoned Moderators.

I need to clarify something that I erred in.

I see a different "board" than you do. So I see the warning levels of everyone, along with a lot of other things. Apparently the warning levels are only visible to the user themselves, and only if they have a warning.

So in other words, if you don't see the warning level symbols under your avatar, you don't have any warnings. BTW --- There is only one user with any warnings. Two other violators have been banned permanently ("Stumpheaded"). And two more barely escaped after a personal conversation with each via telephone.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

I believe Dean has recently added the "warn" area to all, it wasn't there in the past.

Yes, If I'm not mistaken (again) I believe I have it set so each person can see their own warn level.

I actually find this kind of depressing. What does it say about humanity, when there is a need to have protocols like this on a forum shared by, supposedly, mature adults, who just want to discuss palm trees. This really shouldn't be necessary and yet it's been proven that it is, time and time again.

Group hug, anyone?
