High's here for the weekend..... Mid -high 60's to around 70f and lows in the low 50's..... Summer's definitely over for us.....  The weird part is how many people I talk to that are actually happy to see this weather - they glow about putting jackets on and drinking hot chocolate..... What a bunch of wackos...lol..

You need to move south.  Those are winter time highs for me.  I don't own a "heavy" jacket.  I can make it on a windbreaker.  The few days that you actually need a heavy jacket, I just bundle real good and before you know it it's warm again.

Many friends are weather geek's who are pissed because it isn't cold enough  :o   I have to admit that these are nice temperatures and I can let up on irrigation just a bit  :)

It should stay unsettled into the upcoming week with retrograding dry lows rotating into SoCal.

Looks like the first arctic invasion of the season moves into the upper Midwest/Great Lakes in a few days.

Great data base.  Thanks for the details.  My digital Oregon system failed [purchase via Amazon] but have backup instruments.  What software are you using?

Your current monthly temperatures reflect August in LA. Love winter in Miami   :P

Looks like early El Nino kicking in via NWS-LA 10-8-06 3:45AM:

THE UPPER LOW IS FCST TO BEGIN TO TRY TO TAP INTO SOME

SUBTROPICAL MSTR THU NIGHT AND FRI...AS IT SPINS IN PLACE...WITH A

DECENT MOISTURE PLUME AIMED INTO SRN CA IN THE DEEP SLY FLOW ON THE

ERN SIDE OF THE UPPER LOW. THE UPPER LOW IS FCST TO REMAIN NEARLY

STATIONARY THRU SAT...BEFORE SLOWLY MOVING TOWARD CA SUNDAY.

WITH THE POSN OF THE UPPER LOW OFF THE CST...THE POTENTIAL FOR

IT TO TAP INTO SOME SUBTROPICAL MSTR AND DRAG IT NWD INTO THE FCST

AREAS FRI THRU SUN IS CERTAINLY A POSSIBILITY...AND IF MODELS

REMAIN CONSISTENT...A CHANCE OF RAIN WILL HAVE TO BE ADDED TO THE

FCST FOR FRI THRU AT LEAST SAT.

Got really, really bad hailstorms yesterday as well as a few tornadoes here. I was in Gainesville for the dreaded LSU/Florida game (though we won!!!). We were driving back and saw the most amazing lightning show, it was literally on top of us (just south of Ocala, I'm guessing) and lightning was striking every which way. It was beautiful but frightening.

My station's data is here---

But, you will also do a double take when you look at the numbers for this AM.  As Alan noted, it was 70F at midnight, but at 630AM its 62F.

I think towards the end of the week we are all going to see temps even lower that this.

It's amazing what the oceans' influence can have on temperature moderation... Here is the Friday/Saturday comparison for Charlotte, NC as compared to here on Long Island.....

CHARLOTTE, NC

   Fri, Oct 13  Mostly Sunny

   60°/39°

   Sat, Oct 14  Partly Cloudy

   63°/45°

LONG ISLAND, NY

Fri, Oct 13  Partly Cloudy / Wind

    54°/43°

    Sat, Oct 14  Sunny

    56°/46°

Notice how the LOW is LOWER, but the Daytime Temps are HIGHER in CHARLOTTE as compared to here.... I notice the same thing in the winter...we can get down to 20f, and they're down to 10-15f... but the daytime temps rebound higher..... Both of us are zone 7, but different climate types....

Yesterday morning before work, I noted the following temps around the bay:

Sarasota                       61

Lakeland                       57  (brrrrrr)

MacDill AFB                    62

Punta Gorda                  63

Fort Myers                     67

Downtown St. Pete       70

St. Pete/Clw Airport   68

Nice to see that we're only 2F lower than downtown.  Hope it stays that way!

In ickier news, someone at the nursery last weekend told me that in '83, St. Pete got down to.... 13F!  Huh??  I lived here then and I sure don't remember that at all - I know we got slammed a few times in the 80's, but nothing like that.  How can I get info on absolute lows here?

From everything I've been reading, it certainly seems an EN is forming, and perhaps not as weak as they thought.  Interesting to think that moderate to strong EN's might coincide with severe wx that usually involves tornados.

I honestly believe that - at least here - a strong EN plays a causal role:  looking back to the EN in '92-93 and the March storm that sping, then the very strong EN that coincided with the terrible Central FL outbreak in Feb. '98, and the lesser tornadic activity that year.  Gotta wonder.

Nice to see that we're only 2F lower than downtown.  Hope it stays that way!

I also watch the lows daily at (usually) 8 different stations.

I hate to be nitpicky, but yesterday's lows were actually the following---

Larry's Jungle - 61.9F

Tarpon Springs - Sponge Docks - 63.5F

Tarpon Springs - Fred Howard Park- 63.9F

Albert Whitted - 70.0F

Tampa AP - 64.9F

Clearwater AP - 63.0F

McDill AFB - 60.8F

Vandenberg AP - 57.2F

Several of these surprised me.

First off, Tampa AP has been consistently running warmer than the Clearwater AP all this fall.

MacDill always reads way too low for some reason.

The Fred Howard Park station sits right on the Gulf and the reading yesterday morning seems too low based on what this station usually reads compared to other area stations.

Ive watched all these stations for several years now and the same general trend always arises in the end.

Of the three major AP stations around the area, Albert Whitted is always warmest (usually by at least half a zone, usually more), Clearwater AP is second, and Tampa AP is coldest.

My yard tracks (usually) about like the Tampa AP give or take a degree either way.  What a bummer!

Larry's Jungle - 64.8F

Tarpon Springs - Sponge Docks - 68.00F

Tarpon Springs - Fred Howard - 69.08F

Albert Whitted - 71.1F

Tampa AP - 66.9F

Clearwater AP - 64.9F

McDill AFB - 64.4F

Vandenberg AP - 60.8F (this reading is suspicious as there are several hours worth of data that seems "stuck" at 60.8F).

Tampa AP continues to read higher than expected.  I wonder if they moved their sensor closer to the Bay :D

We have the first "severe" cold front sweeping thru Texas tomorrow night.  Supposed to have a low of 55F Thursday night, with highs "only" around 70F on Friday.  Avg high is still 84F.  But back in the upper 80s after the weekend.  Should be a refreshing cool front.  Is it going to make it through Florida too?

The weather is ridiculous in Melbourne.  We haven't had a decent soaking all year, yesterday was 32C, today was apparently 38C (I only know it was hot, and now at 5pm it is 34C at home) and tomorrow is going to be 28C.  The average maximum for this time of year is 19C, and I doubt we've ever had 2 30+ days in a row in mid October, let alone potentially 3.  El Nino is going to bring us a hot, dry summer.

The weather is RIDICULOUS in Melbourne. I'll confirm the above temperatures except tomorrow is 30C, not 28C.

Today's hot dry winds (got down to 5% humidity at times) have sparked over 100 bush fires in the state of Victoria and the supposed cold front is now delayed.

Just a quick edit: The air over SE Australia is the driest ever recorded with places recording relative humidities of less than 1% - equipment is now malfunctioning due to the dry air.

I have never known it to get so hot so early in the season.

And after all these years of drought and each new forecast getting downgraded from, "Rain" to "Showers" to "A Few Showers" to "Mostly Fine", I have come to the conclusion that it just don't rain in Melbourne any more.

Cheers,

Adam
