Crazy Boats

Pivi

Recommended Posts

I just took this photo few hours ago.

I have never seen before 3 outboard motors, each 300 horse power on a boat size like this.

I did see 2x250, or 2x225. But this, this is crazy.

Show your photos if you have any.

That's a fairly regular sight in S. Florida. Occasionally you will even see a boat with 4 outboards. The 2 middle motors will be hung lower than the 2 outside motors, I guess to get them out of the wash.

Amazing to think you got $60,000 in motors alone in the picture.

Exactly....."go fast" boats are pretty common here in south Florida. You know, to bring smokes over from neighboring countries like Jamaica and Columbia. lol!

I am not sure about elsewhere, but with the rise in gas prices over the last couple years, there are lots of big boats for sale over in this neck of the woods.

Ha ha! We call those "masturbation boats" - they are only good for masturbating the driver's ego!

I know nothing about boats, so this is a sincere question. (no snarkiness, please) What type of boat did Sonny pilot in the Miami Vice television series? How fast, how much horsepower, how much price? Thanks!

That would be a Wellcraft 38 Scarab KV with twin 440-hp engines. I have no idea how much it cost, but I can tell you from expeience that you would remember a well done ride in one for the rest of you life. No other way to describe other than one bad-ass boat.

No doubt palmisland's pictures are of real boats... stripped down to haul cargo and haul it fast... those are used for pirating or more likely smuggling... Hmmm.... maybe that's how to get Lodoicea? :winkie:

I have seen the US Customs boat with 4 250s but never seen a boat with 5. It looks like there isn't enough room to turn the engines.

When I got married lo these many years ago, we left the reception riding my friends 28 foot Cigarette. Not a big boat but it still had almost 1000HP. Back in 1980 it took $100 of fuel just to take the thing for a short spin. Scary ride in large swells.

This is a pic of a US Customs boat. Adding engines doesn't add as much as you think, with all the extra engine weight, extra fuel needed and outdrive drag! A boat with 2-200's isn't twice as fast as 1-200 hp. Oh yeah Pivi, it's fairly common in South Florida to see boats over 30 ft with multiple engines.
