orange boxes

What are the orange boxes next to the topic titles? When I post a topic there is no orange box. Also how do get a smiley face or some other item into the open space next to the orange box?

Howdy,

The orange box means the thread has a new reply in it that you have not read. Click on it and it takes you straight into that thread to the first unread reply, instead of bringing you to the beginning every time. The best way to read this site is every time you open it up click on the "View New Posts" link in the upper right hand corner next to My Controls . That shows you all the posts that are new since your last visit. It saves time.

To get a smiley next to your topic, you cannot use the Fast Reply, you have to click the Add Reply button to the right of it to make your entry. This will show you a limited number of smilies and other tags at the bottom that you can use to identify your thread.
