Palmtalk forum - Blocked from Work

Trópico

So I haven't been to palmtalk in a while. The reason is the place I work, in their obsession of making things more unpleasant for their workers, decides to enhance their website blocking to "protect the company's computing assets"; one of the affected sites turns out to be palmtalk. :rage: Believe me, it is not about increasing productivity.

Maybe the site admins can find that meta-keyword that could be causing the site to be blocked? I don't really know how this thing works, but Neofolis' palm-haven forum is still not blocked (thank God!). If someone has more information on how this website blocking programs work, kindly share it to see if something can be done about it. Please help!

Have you talked to your friendly admin. This was likely an unintended consequence of some other action, than a deliberate action. Explain that the site is harmless and you like to visit it on your lunch break. Offer to show it to him/her. Sometimes a friendly request goes far.

In my post I sometimes express "my" opinion. Warning, it may differ from "your" opinion. If so, please do not feel insulted, just state your own if you wish. Any data in this post is provided 'as is' and in no event shall I be liable for any damages, including, without limitation, damages resulting from accuracy or lack thereof, insult, or any other damages

How are you trying to get on? What address are you using? Or are you using a "favorite" or "bookmark?" What address is it using? Try different addresses, after deleting your cache after each try. Try using a different browser if allowed. Try going through the IPS website or through Google - not to the log in page, but a topic page. Maybe if I gave you the IP, it would work.

What message are you getting, and is it the same no matter what you try?

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Same BS at my job. I can't stream my favorite radio station anymore either. As a consequence, I dumped over 3000 songs from my IPOD onto the server.

I tried going to the site by IP address today and it worked. For some reason it was then categorized as sports instead of message boards, which allowed me to go. The problem with this approach is that each post is tagged as palmtalk.org/forum/index......so you continuously have to keep changing it to the IP address.

Next attempt will be to connect to my home PC using remote desktop and could then browse any site I want.

I've done something similar occasionally. I shut down my laptop computer, take it out of the docking station that connects it to my work's intranet, start it up again, log onto the wireless that is available in my office building but don't log onto my work's intranet, then I can access any site I want. This takes at least 15 minutes and then it takes another 15 minutes to get connected to work again. It's too much of a pain to do regularly, but every now and then when I'm bored I'll do it. I hope my boss isn't reading this. :indifferent:

I work from home and must connect to the company's network via VPN. If I'm not connected I can get anywhere. Hopefully this won't change! I do make sure I don't go to any other mail sites - hotmail, yahoo, etc - while I am connected and then delete my cookies and temporary files and addresses at the end of each day.

It isn't the average person they need to worry about. But the many must suffer for the sins of the few.

Thanks to all for your suggestions :)

So today I randomly or by mistake picked this website from my browser and lo and behold - it finally works! Yes, randomly things change from our admin position and websites are no longer blocked. May be something with the new forum format... hopefully it stays this way. Thanks Dean if you did anything different this time... it means a lot to me. I promise I won't get distracted and my work performance won't go to the toilet.

I was told by my friends, cousins working in IT industry. That their company's main firewall has been tweaked to block all sites which has .org or .gov & some forums & e.mail sites which has chatting enabled facility enabled in them.

So i think that is the reason why you are able to still visit Corey lucas website ? :hmm:

Love,

kris :)

I happened to try the site from work a few months back and was able to access it. I was worried about spending too much time here to trigger the IT police, but I still have access from my work computer.

I can use my blackberry as a modem so if I have any problems when I actually have to go into the office, I undock my laptop, plug in my blackberry and connect to the internet that way. But so far, they have only blocked email sites - hotmail, etc.
