Scott, I only wish. It is a friend's place I visited last night. He wishes not to be mentioned but is a fan of TRIstichous palms, if you know what I mean.

I recognize that waterfront property..... and I think I was there at the same time of night too!! :floor:

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

I'm always worried I'm planting too close together but judging by BSman's photos I might have them to spread out. Nice photos Bill.

That place has a special meaning to me because there are a lot of "potted palms" there too!

Norman Moody's fantastic 5-acre yard in Palm Beach County shows what happens when a densely-planted area grows up. It's a palm forest.

In my own yard, I'm trying to plant palms so they'll sort themselves out by height--maybe Archontophoenix in the canopy with Dypsis "fine leaf" somewhere below and Sabal minor in the understory.

By the way, Joyce Maschinski of Fairchild has a nice story on Pseudophoenix sargentii conservation in the issue of "The Tropical Garden" that arrived today.

Fla. climate center: 100-119 days>85 F
USDA 1990 hardiness zone 9B
Current USDA hardiness zone 10a
4 km inland from Indian River; 27º N (equivalent to Brisbane)

Central Orlando's urban heat island may be warmer than us

Dave-

It is interesting you mentioned Joyce. I work just 50 feet away from her! Small world.....

So when I come to CA, should I expect what I see at this place with the coral rock waterfalls and the lakeview? :winkie:

You'll have to hold a picture in front of your face for the waterfall, but there is an Oceanview nearby. :mrlooney:
