I'm stuck on the sunset in post 44. All the palms are great, of course. Foliage in 74 fantastic. Love the new avatar, it's a well-balanced composition with all my favorite elements and still iconic in tiny format, well done. The photo of Donna smiling, I thought "All you need is love...." Life is good.

Thank you Bill, Kim and others and without any further or do, a few more from that mind blowing fern/exotic house. I go head over heels for unique leaf shapes and colours and this house had them all.

Okay, here's the final batch of photos folks, and this will be like the cart before the horse because these were taken on day one at Mikey's place, thanks again Mikey for your friendship and knowledge, you really made our trip complete, except there wasn't any roadkill prepared in time. but that's okay, really, it's fine.

Here are my favorite palms there, Mikey's big 4 Dypsis. Each with very similar growing habits, chunky base, long upright leaves, but each coloured differently. My only problem is remembering what they are, I'll have a go at recalling with some obvious traits to help me. Everyone would love to have this quadrophonic Dypsis team growing in their garden I bet.

I'll split the post in two so we can see decent sizes once you click on the thumbnail. I took the photo of the base of the palm, the area is quite striking I think.

Dypsis Quad part one:

Dypsis sp. 'Mealy Bug'

Dypsis sp. 'Highland Redneck' a Big Red form of lastelliana, is that correct ?

This Dypsis leptocheilos of Mikey's is rather odd in that it's leaves are nearly twice as long as normal and there seems to be extra fur happening around the place, not quite regular.

Awesome, just as I figured! The mealybug looks like what we call the "dark mealybug".

Is one of those lastelliana known as "big red"?

Hi Bill,

She's really different compared to "Big Red" I'll see if I can find a copy of "Wodyetia"

thats our mag from our old Palm and Cycad Ass, we had running a while back.

In there there was one remaining palm near rice paddies, this has since being cut

down, by who we aren't sure, I will get other info for you about this beauty.

Wal,

All I can say is these pictures of your trip make me want to travel to Australia right now! The Australian Tourist Board could not have put together a more enticing set of pictures to make visitors want to travel to Australia. To see some of my favorite palms growing and thriving in the wild is very exciting! Absolutely beautiful! If I ever travel out of the US, Australia is the first place I want to go! No worries, it's been a pleasure, if I can encourage people to review and renew and to get further into palms and of course to come visit OZ, then I am a very satisfied man indeed. As I said a few years ago, I'll even put on a sausage sizzle.

Hi Wal,

I should have answered this before, Sorry guys, the first picture is Dypsis 'Highland Redneck'

I know theres a bigger plant in the gardens, (I will get another picture for you Bill)

2nd is what was first collected under the name of Dypsis tsaratananensis, (collected

by Mark Overend, an Austrailian collector) and distributed by Clayton York, Curt Butterfield,

Rich Trapnell and Jeff Marcus. We know this palm now as Dypsis "White stem" and not the

latter name mentioned.

Oh Gene,

Sommeria affinis is from P.N.G, and Sommeria leucophylla is from Irian Jaya, bit of info

for you I should have added before.
