Garden's in Manhattan

I'll be in NYC for the week. Are their any gardens with decent palm collections (indoor I would assume)?

It's a shame that I can't escape the addiction, even for just a week.

The New York Botanical Garden is fun to visit.  The palms are inside the Haupt Conservatory, a fabulous white victorian glasshouse with a huge dome at its center.  Well worth a visit for anyone who is thrilled by the wonders of the plant world,  there is a lot more than the palm collection.

NYBG is also a great research institution, comparable to the Missouri Botanical Garden and Kew.  They've been very busy in recent years doing refurbishments and construction.

Not to belabor the obvious, but Central Park is one of the world's great urban marvels.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has a fine Japanese garden, restored in recent years.  Their booklets on gardening topics are among the best.

  • 8 months later...

Well, nine months later and I'm headed back to New York. I missed seeing the New York Botanical Garden last time, so I'm determined to catch it this time.

Maybe I'll see if Bobby cares to join me.

Is there anything else of the 'must see' sort there?

If you really want to see palms, Rockefeller Center has many out in large pots, mainly roebeliniis and Adonidia, but it's not worth it unless you're already close.  Last summer they had a large tropical layout, with huge Alocasias, Heliconias, Ensetes, lots of bromeliads, bamboo, etc.  As of Thursday they were still in spring-display mode though.

NYBG is nice, there's a large conservatory.
