I have a local nursery where I buy mulch, primarily. The owner lives next door to the nursery. I have admired his Butia triple for many years, so today I asked if I could go snap a picture of it. The picture does not do it justice. It is pretty much a perfectly grown triple specimen in every way. Fabulous.

Just realized that shot did not show all 3 trunks, and too late to edit. Here is 2nd shot.

Here's another tall Butia here in Jacksonville, Fl.- Memorial Park (2 pics same palm). Notice the curved trunk. It would be even taller if the curves were not there.

Butias have to be my favorite palms...those arching fronds make me drool...too bad I let mine die :'( (Petioles and spear are still green, but the rest of the fronds are dead...) Oh well, it was diseased (fungus) when I bought it, and it gives me an excuse to replace it with a big healthy one in spring...;)

Butia "forest" in Galveston, TX. There are about 85 of these planted very close together in a grove near the entrance of a community.

Here's what has to be the tallest Butia I've seen in "person" anywhere. It is located here in Jacksonville , Fl., and is probably nearing 100 years old. Seems 40-plus feet tall. (2 shots of same palm).
