Hi everybody……I picked this palm up last week at a nursery…...where I was pretty sure about it being a Pritchardia, (shoot, there I go stretching the bounds of my knowledge again!)  I was stumped past that point…..the nursery owner wasn’t sure either… Any ideas???? ???

I thought I had seen some pics of a beccariana here, but it was an adult.

Hmmmmm, sure wish there was a book with pics of juveniles along with adults…..

Thanks allot!

Rusty,

Yep, that's a Pritchardia, but coming up with a species name will be trickier. At that size they all pretty much look the same, and I think even the so called experts have to wait for them to get bigger! :)

Bo, thanks!  Kinda makes me feel a little better...although I can get stumped on smaller plams pretty easy.

When it comes to Pritchardias in Florida, it is a pretty good chance that it is one of three species:

hillebrandtii

pacifica

thurstonii

P. hillebrandtii tends not to have that many segmentations in the frond at that age. Pacifica and thurstonii are very similar at that age, it is hard to tell. The ribbing and leaf shape lead me to say pacifica.
