The MacDonalds have cultivated a palm-rich garden in a mild microclimate near San Francisco Bay since 1990. On August 26, 2012, they hosted the Northern California Chapter of the International Palm Society.
30 years in the making... I sketched this house design when I was 18, and 'nursed' palms and other exotics over the early years to plant out here. A passion and fantasy that came true. Built it in 2006, left in 2015.
First steps in palm growing. After moving into my new home in central Florida a year ago, I created a new landscape outside my veranda using native palms and tropicals. Thes pictures document how my palms are growing. Species include Florida native Coccothrinax Argentata, Sabal minor (Dwarf Palm), Zamia Floridana (Coontie), and the non native Chamaedorea cataractarum (Cat palm).
