On Sunday, April 28, HIPS will tour the palm, cycad, and bromeliad gardens at the U of H Hilo. In addition, former HIPS president Don Hemmes, has arranged to open the genetic sequencing lab for a demonstration of DNA extraction on Pritchardia beccariana. Event starts at 1:15 pm. There will be a SFPS general meeting on Monday, October 1, at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (FTBG). FTBG is located at 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, FL. We will be meeting in the Corbin Room. This will be a question and answer session with our distinguished guest panelist: Ellis Brown, Andrew Street and Dr. Jeff Chaite. Please feel free to ask any question regarding Palms; from growing issues, pests, pesticides, natural controls, etc. Food will be potluck. Drinks will be provided. I just created a new web site for the Louisiana Palm and Cycad Society. See my signature below. I have no experience so I used Go Daddy's web site for dummies and voila! My home computer is still out, but my computer guru has extracted the virus and I will get it back better than ever tomorrow. Then I will be able to add pictures and make a few other planned updates to the web site. Please check it out and provide feedback!

Our annual Picnic & Giant Plant Auction will be held on Saturday June 8 this year. Terry & Ruth Lynch are allowing us to have the picnic in their Fabulous garden at 2802 Lake Osborne Dr., Lake Worth. The time will be 8 AM to 2 PM. All members and anyone else that would like to attend are welcome. Please bring Pot Luck covered dish and any kind of plants for the auction. There will be a potluck lunch and an auction of rare palms. Our host is Paul Godowski of Hillsborough. Paul has created a spectacular garden in just six years. His location is a true Sunset zone 16.
