It is my pleasure to announce the CFPACS Fall Meeting on October 16th in Orlando. All are invited - you do not need to be a CFPACS member to attend. Schedule for CFPACS Fall Meeting, October 16 9:30-10:30 am: CFPACS Board meeting 10:30 am - noon: Garden tour of Dave Witt's Dave Witt began growing palms at his Dr. Phillips property in 1993. As of 2008 he had over 130 palm species planted in the ground. All of these are planted on a typical subdivision lot, including a Corypha utan (it is damaged every time we have a freeze, but it still survives). Dave has served as CFPACS president (2001-2) and has compiled copious information on central Florida freezes.…

CFPACS returns to Tampa on June 13th. We will begin at the garden of the late Dr. U. A. Young. Dr. Young’s garden is one of the great private palm and cycad collections in Florida with many specimens dating back to the 1960’s. Dr. Young’s son Brad will serve as our tour guide. Brad has been tending the garden and working with the cycads over the past year, producing good seed from several rare species. The noteworthy palm and cycad specimens in the garden are too numerous to mention. This is an opportunity to see many mature palms and cycads that have survived long term in central Florida. Attention everyone! The spring CFPACS meeting will be held Saturday, March 17th, from 10:30 AM to 2pm or so here in sunny Venice, Florida. The event will start at a five acre property where I have my nursery running (known as The Hague) on the outskirts of Venice, then the members will come into town to meet at my place (Christian Faulkner) at 12:30 PM. It is recommended to bring a folding chair for each attending member, but I will try my best to accomodate with furniture. The CFPACS spring meeting will be on Saturday, March 23 in Wabasso and Valkaria. We will visit the gardens of Anne Michael and Ron Eward and Fiona Pearce. The Michael garden was started by Joe and Anne in the mid 1950s and features mature specimens of Attalea, Bismarckia, Borassus, Copernicia and Corypha among others. Ron Eward and Fiona Pearce’s garden was started in the late 1990s and features a large variety of exotic palms and crotons.
