Hi all, After a couple of quick chats between FM Bencassa and myself an little idea has surfaced and I thought I would gauge any potential interest? We thought it might be a nice thing if there was an ( annual ? ) gathering of interested Aussie palmtalkers? A little mini biennial type thing. Perhaps a different city and a different botanical garden somewhere in Oz each year? It would be nice to put some more faces to names and do some real life palm talking. I think it would probably be a pretty informal type affair and spouses etc would be more than welcome. Is I said it was a bit of a thought bubble but worth investigating further we thought?? Any interest for …

The April 2013 BPACS outing is on this coming Sunday, the 28th of April. We will kick off at 10:00am at the garden of Lou Randall, 52 Cockatoo Crt, Caboolture. Lou has created a mini botanical garden over the years and has a mind blowing collection of desirable plants, including Cycads, succulents and palms, along with many other interesting plant groups. This is a garden visit not to miss. We will then proceed to the garden of Wal and Donna Donovan at 9 Tallawong Cl, Beerwah. Wal’s garden at the foot of Mount Mellum, between Beerwah and Landsborough, is a young garden in so far as Wal and his wife Donna only moved there just over 3 years ago, so very much a gar…

Hi Everyone, the BPACS April outing is to Alma Park Zoo, followed by a visit to Rob’s Rare Palms. The outing will kick off at 10:00 am (22/4/12) at Alma Park Zoo, 18 Alma Rd, Dakabin. Meet in the car park. We have organised a group discount, so the admission will be $30. We were hoping for a larger discount, but that was the best they would give us... For those that don’t know, Alma Park Zoo was created by Bill Williams in 1969. Bill was also the owner of several palm nurseries and a keen collector. He transplanted many mature palms to help form the rainforest canopy of the zoo. Some palms within the zoo originate from Brisbane and are over 100 years old. T…

Hi Everyone, regarding tomorrow’s BPACS outing... The August outing is to Roma St Parklands, a very short walk from the Brisbane CBD. The parklans contains a great collection of plants, including many exotic palms. Arno King has alerted us to the fact that this weekend is also 'Parks Alive ' at Roma St - the biggest event there for the year. This will impact on parking availability, so it may be best to try and park away from Roma St and then walk/bus/train to the parklands to avoid parking frustration. We will still continue with the tour at 10:00am , so to make sure you are there on time, please factor in the additional parking/travel time. Greg Smith has kindly…

The BPACS June outing is to Springbrook and the walking track at Purlingbrook Falls (Circuit). The track is 4 kilometres long and takes about 2 hours to complete. The walk does require a moderate level of fitness as there are several hundred steps along the way. This area has some pristine rainforest, with several species of endemic palms and cycads. The forest could be cool in places, depending on the weather (and it is winter!), so bring along some warm clothing. The scenery is spectacular and passes underneath Purlingbrook Falls which drop more than 100 metres. After the walk we will stop for lunch at one of the local cafes'. For those intending to do the walk, please …
