In Orlando he will speak on Livistona, a palm genus that does very well here in central Florida (including several species that are quite cold hardy). Join us for our upcoming meeting, potluck and auction in sunny Santa Cruz, famous for it's popular beach and boardwalk, at the home Richard Josephson on June 13 from 1-5 pm. This is a well established (1983) collection of palms, bamboos and subtropicals. Situated in Sunset zone 17, the garden features mature Acoelorrhaphe wrightii and Phoenix reclinata (both with 18 ft. trunks!) as well as mature Rhopalostylus sapida and baueri. Our day will begin in McAnsh neighborhood just south of the Vero Beach airport where we will visit the gardens of Andreas Daehnick and Justin and Kimberly McSweeny. The next meeting of Louisiana Palm and Cycad Society will be on Sunday, March 14 at the home of Craig and Kathryn Morgan in Destrehan. The business meeting will begin at 11:00 am and will include election of officers for the 2010-12 term. Lunch will be served around noon. A main course of Shrimp Creole with rice will be provided. Members are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert if they would like. A garden tour with a discussion about cold hardy palms for the Louisiana climate will follow lunch. I just created a new web site for the Louisiana Palm and Cycad Society. See my signature below. I have no experience so I used Go Daddy's web site for dummies and voila! My home computer is still out, but my computer guru has extracted the virus and I will get it back better than ever tomorrow. Hi everybody, Our next meeting of the Costa Rican Palm Society for Saturday February 6 at 10am. will be in Quepos, as was planned . The meeting will be held at the property of Othon and Teresa Bueno which is located just outside the town of Quepos in the coastal foothills of the mountains. Othon and Teresa have approx 750 acres that they are developing into an eco-resort (they are currently in the planning and approval stage).
