PLEASE TAG YOUR COLD HARDY TOPICS
by PALM MOD- 12 replies
- 16.4k views
We would suggest tagging any new topics accordingly - with "Cold Hardy," in case it is ever deemed necessary to merge this new forum back into the main "Discussing Palms" forum. If that is done, Cold Hardy topics will always be easily accessible by using the tag feature.

Well, The heavy lifting is done. There are still some tweaks etc. that need to be done. If you guys think it's weird getting used to and figuring out the new forum look and features, you should take a look at the Administration Control Panel. Please realize I am starting from the same place as you are. I will have to figure out some answers as well. So if you have figured out an answer to a question, please chime in. Don't forget, there is a "HELP" option in the upper right hand corner. Try checking there first for the obvious things you may be having trouble with. As to the PMs - I mentioned that the PM system was much different. I don't know all the intrica…

There are a number of odd and worrisome wacky things going on with the Forum. None of the normal fixes or maintenance are working. Be assured I am aware of this, and am trying everything I can think of. I am awaiting some experts with this software to reply to my inquiries. Let's hope they can help.

Redirected from Google search?? 1 2

Hi Mods. I have this intermittent issue. If I do a google search from their webpage and click one of the various palmtalk links it gives me, it will redirect me to a different site- same site every time. BUT! It only happens every now and then. Maybe a couple times a month with my amount of computer usage. Let's say I only get redirected like 3-5% of the time. I keep pretty up to date on my computer, spyware, antivirus, general maintenance, etc.. I can't say that it's NOT my computer, but I'm relatively certain it is not. I'm well aware of malware that redirects on a more regular basis. I have no other re-direct issues whatsoever (or malware, as far as I know) …

IMPORTANT --- POLICY RE: DELETING OLD TOPICS/POSTS 1 2
by PALM MOD- 64 replies
- 11.8k views
This was briefly eluded to several times in the past, but needs to be officially discussed and enacted soon. It should be obvious that we can not keep every single post forever. There are several reasons this is impractical, as well as problematic. I am proposing a policy, and would appreciate some feedback. I am proposing that we delete every topic that has not been "added to" in 6 months, with the exception being the Palapa where topics would be deleted after 3 months of inaction. This would allow anyone who really likes a topic, and would like to see it kept alive, plenty of time to "bump it" (save it) before it's deadline arrived. This policy would be the easiest …

NEW WARNING POLICY - PLEASE READ 1 2
by PALM MOD- 1 follower
The PalmTalk Web Committtee has decided to institute a new policy directed at curbing some of the rude, impolite, and hostile behavior floating around the Forum lately. It is a refinement of an existing policy, and one we wish to make sure everyone is aware of. It could be considered a "Three Strikes You're Out" policy. Those members who can not abide by the few and simple guidelines we have here will be issued an unofficial warning to make sure they understand they are in danger of receiving an "official" warning. The first official warning will result in a one week suspension, the second is a two week suspension, and with a third one you're gone. Your can view your "…

WAS ANYONE STILL USING "CLASSIC BLUE?" 1 2
by PALM MOD- 1 follower
- 7.9k views
The new upgrade "broke" the Classic Blue Skin. There may be a way to fix it with a little bit of work. But, if very few will miss it, the time and potential problems a fix could lead to is not worth it. If you are using it, you will notice some weirdness with some things. Try using the newer skin (options at bottom left hand corner of page) and see if you can't get used to it. There are actually some improvements not available with Classic Blue.

GOOD NEWS-LARGER PHOTOS
by PALM MOD- 30 replies
- 7.5k views
Previously the only way to post photos larger than 100 kb was to use a hosting service such as Photo Bucket. The direct attachment to your post by uploading to PalmTalk was restricted to files under that size. Now, for IPS Members only, we have found a way to allow photo sizes of up to 250 kb to be attached to your posts, and avoid the need for a hosting service. In fact, we would encourage you to post photos this way, so that PalmTalk will never lose photos if members change hosting services, or purge their libraries. You will need to be an IPS Member to take advantage of this new benefit. Please consider doing so. To learn more about the IPS, or to sign up, you c…

Browser icon for Palmtalk.org

NEW RATING SERVICE FOR NURSERIES AND GROWERS 1 2
by PALM MOD- 45 replies
- 7.2k views
Allowing comments about nurseries and growers in the "Discussing Palms" forum has turned into a fiasco. Not only is it off-topic to what we would like to discuss in that forum, it has turned into a disrespectful free for all. The IPS wants to allow feedback on growers, so that buyers can get some idea of who they are dealing with when they find a nursery here or elsewhere. So, in order to provide some order, and to provide a more worthwhile service, we are instituting a new area that will be used exclusively for the discussion of those who sell seeds and/or palms. In addition it will contain a rating system for individual nurseries and backyard growers. Jungle Music…

CHANGES TO PIC UPLOAD CAPACITY
by PALM MOD- 23 replies
- 7.1k views
For IPS Members, there will now be a 2000 KB per post limit for attachment uploads. This means you may display many more thumbnails in each post. You will find this more convenient if you have a lot of photos to post. In addition this will further reduce the amount of scrolling necessary for those threads that utilize thumbnails. There is no way for me to place a limit on each pic's size. As a result, you may now upload one 1900 KB photo, or nineteen 100 KB photos per post. I would encourage you to still attempt to keep photos to a reasonable size. Anything over 350-400 KB does not make the photo any better for our purposes. So any photo larger than that is an unnecessary…

This Board
by bubba- 29 replies

Since the passing of Robert Rifle, this board seems less interesting. The discussions seem to center exclusively around Californians talking amonst themselves. This "clique" seems to run the board and only respond among themselves. When a topic is posted that should garner some legitimate discussions between Californians(ie the fate of the Keitt mango commercial operation in Coachella), there is no response or worst yet a question about how information was obtained by a Floridian when they could have driven to the location and seen it with their own eyes. The "clique" meanwhile discusses ad nauseum the fate of their foot tall "cocos nucifera",while taping fake leaves onto a…

Travel Logs Discussion
by PALM MOD- 27 replies
- 6.4k views
Presently we have a Travel Logs section that mentions in it's description "Botanical Gardens" among other things. We created it after member suggestion and discussion, due to so many nice travel topics appearing in "Discussing Palms." So as long as we have it, we should use it as intended and described. I have not been as strict when enforcing these guidelines as I could/should be, and there is a gray area. I can not read every post anymore. I can't even read every thread anymore. I skim as best I can, but may miss things. So I encourage and appreciate when members report items to me that may need correcting. Consider yourselves as mini-moderators. Please use the "repo…

PalmTalk getting slower and slower
by tropicalb- 35 replies

Okay...is it just me, or does opening PalmTalk nowadays seem to take at least four times as long to load as it ever did BEFORE it was changed over to php? I'm thinking it has a LOT to do with the fact that Palmtalk is now hosting WAY more pictures on its server than it ever did before. All I can say is.....it's REALLY getting slow in here. Dean.....have you noticed this also? Anyone else?

From around 11.30am (GMT+1) this morning until 9.30pm I was unable to connect to the forum. I cleared my cache, re-booted but still no luck. So I checked the status of www.palmtalk.org with a couple of websites: Down For Everyone Or Just Me? and CheckSite.us - Site Check Sure enough, both failed to connect. Can anyone confirm that the server has been going off-line?

Linking problem to PT through google
by Kumar- 17 replies
- 5.6k views
This is a peculiar annoyance that keeps happeneing to me for the last two weeks. I always go to Google, search for 'Palmtalk' and therafter click on the first link that turns up in the result - usually to the PT Forum. On doing so I get directed to this - http://url123.info/e875cd64, which is some literature on Windows 7. Now the funny part, if I go back to the seach results on Google and retry the same link, it works fine. This has happened on three different PCs running different OS' so it can't be a PC specific problem. I wonder if anyone else has had the same experience.
