Kentia palm has curled leaflets

Hello, A year ago I bought a Kentia palm. It is a tuft of three young plants, about 1.20 m high. It is noticeable that one of the plants has a slightly different appearance: Its fronds are rather stiff, since the leaflets are slightly curled. Even older leaflets do not flatten out, so that the fronds do not hang over as elegantly. Is this a common phenomenon or is the plant sick? Could the plant perhaps have root damage? Improve soil without removing the palm from the pot

Got a pretty big pot with a Kentia in it. Recently I notice the medium in the pot looks allmost muddy when watering. I think the Medium I planted in was wood compost. I was thinking about gently digging out all the "soil" I can without removing the palm from the pot then filling it up again with some fresh grow medium along with something that improves drainage. Mainly Sand, perlite and Pumice. Anyone done this successfully?

Hi guys! Anyone have an idea as to what could be causing these brown/dry/yellow damage spots on the new frond that just opened last week and the new spear of my small Dypsis lutescens? I believe the spear is growing at a decent rate for indoors (first emerged last Thursday, 4 inches long today) but it’s not looking good. It even has a tear in it which I’ve never seen before. I have a feeling I may have overfed it as the spear also feels quite tender compared to the previous spear. Conditions it is in: - Large south-east facing window but I have to supplement with grow light over winter averaging 1500-2000 foot candles for 12-14 hours - Temperatures ar…

Hi all, I'm looking for advice. I was on a trip for two months, and during that time some of my palm trees got sick. They were definitely overwatered, but now it's fixed. Soil is well-draining. Any thoughts? In the first photo, T. Fortunei, in the second, P. Dactylifera. I found black dots and tips only on trachies, all other palm trees are ok. The yellow spots on the date older leaf are similar to those I found on my mango tree. Thank you all in advance, peace

What are some good plants I can put in my pot to accentuate the palm without risking overwatering or drying the palm out? I have a 2 foot Mexican fan, and a 2 foot pindo palm but every cheap flower I have in there keeps dying would cacti work or would they dry out the palm since they don’t require as much watering ? I only water the palms once a week so I don’t want water hungry plants in there with them. Also what are good tips for keeping them healthy in pots for a long time ?

Any negatives to using clear/translucent pots? A handful of my babies are in soda bottles/clear cups and the like and I kind of dig being able to see the roots. I'm assuming there could be some consequences if I were to put a rootbound palm in full sun or something, maybe. But I had a handful of big palms in black nursery pots on concrete in full brutal Texas sun, too and they loved it.

I moved several dozen of my 3gal size palms into my basement for the winter back in November, and I've noticed some of them have developed some die back since then. They don't get the TLC I wish I could give them since I've been off at college, but my parents do their best to water them while I'm gone and they get plenty of light from fluorescent lights set on a timer. The other sabal species I've got down there seem to be fine; I'm only noticing dead foliage on the minors. Does anyone have any insight into what might be the cause? Here's some pictures:

Has anyone in this group heard of tomentum? I am getting a white sticky substance on some of my palms. I have had this issue in the past as well. I had always assumed it was a fungus. However, I cam across a post on Facebook where someone had an issue with a similar substance. Someone else commented and claimed it was tomentum. They claim it is normal and not harmful. I tried to do a bit of research. I did not find a great deal of information about it, but I have always treated it as a fungus by cleaning it off and then spraying with copper fungicide. Hey, I just bought a windmill palm for my backyard from northeast Ohio palms. I was wondering if the Palm would be alright with me keeping it outside for the winter and just taking it in if it got below 20f. I’m planting it in the ground in March. (picture of my new palm) Its right in front of my glass door and next to a brick wall that gets pretty warm, it’ll be planted a few feet from where it is now, also in front of the brick wall (southern sun exposure) as an fyi.

I know it's December, but come spring I'll have tons of little babies to pot up and put outside. Fire ants are apparently a huge issue here, I've already had a B. Alfreidii turn into an ant bed after a heavy rain a few months ago. Would it be detrimental to palms to mix fire ant poison into the soil when potting up?

This thing has grown slowly over the year and a half or so that I have had it, it started life on the west coast and spent some time on my front porch when I first moved to NC this summer. I almost never water it and it currently resides near a south facing window and under a growlight which I turn on every couple days when there's not much sun. I can't remember what soil I used, probably a miracle grow palm and cactus with some added aggregate like wood mulch, perlite or whatever I had on hand. I assume this is a nutrient deficiency but I don't know. Should I buy a soil test kit from Amazon?

Hello. I live in Massachusetts and we’ve already had some snow and 10 degree days. (Fahrenheit) I was wondering if there is a trunked palm tree that can grow in a smaller pot maybe about 8 inches or below in diameter. I was hoping to see if there was a good trunked palm species that is easy to care for and is not poisonous to dogs that can go on a desk. Maybe even on the cold hardier side. I also heard that some palm trees like buying from Home Depot or a large store that has them can bring bugs into the house. I’ve so far only seen pony tail palm trees. My two trachycarpus fortunei (3 gallon, from Perfect Plants, arrived May 2022) have been great houseplants over one winter and thrived outdoors (in pots) over two summers up here. They have not been fussy about soil (Miracle Gro moisture control), fertilizer (osmocote plus and occasional Miracle Gro for acid loving plants), or water (wetter during summer, drier during winter). They've been outdoors from late May to October. No insect or disease issues to date. Their fronds do not like my windy location, but that "damage" has not slowed them down. Growing tropical palms in NC

Here’s a few of the tropical palms I grow here in southern NC. I figured I’d do an update/track the progress of these since it’s been a while. The double Pygmy date palm is one I’ve had for a good while and is starting to really show off a decent trunk. Should be a pretty cool specimen once it matures. The Christmas palm is one I picked up at a nursery in FL not long ago. The double foxtails are seed from Venice FL and the foxtails stay cozy in the greenhouse for winter. The pygmy date and Christmas palm stay in the garage when it gets cold and they go back outside during the day most of the time since it’s usually pretty warm during daylight. 👍🌴

High air humidity only during the day?

Hi indoor palm growers, Am I correct in thinking that indoor plants need additional air humidity mostly during the day? So, I can shut down my humidifier during the night, which would help to avoid mold infestation on my apartment walls. I am based in Germany, so my winter life mostly happens indoors. Therefore, I focus on palms that can thrive without Mediterranean levels of sunshine, such as tropical understory palms like Joey, Chamaedoreas, and Kerriodoxa. I think they make great indoor plants, but they tend to require high air humidity. Hello. I live in Greece and i am an owner of 3 licuala grandis. Suddenly one of them folded 4 leaves overnight. I don't know what's wrong. Its near an east window with no strong light, humidity is at about 60 and i water once a week or ten days after i check the first centimetres of soil to be dry. Kept always humid. The only thing that changed is the weather. Its colder. But inside my home the temperature doesn't fall under19 degrees. 2 weeks ago i saw some pests on 2 leaves and i used a cloth with water and alcohol to make them go away.
