Container Foxtail Palm Growth Speed?

I’ve had this foxtail since last summer and has since rooted very well in the container and is now beginning to grow rapidly! Just opened a new frond and already has a new spear and great stem extension! How tall can these get in containers and how fast will it get to say 4 feet of trunk or so? When should I repot this? This summer or next?

Is this pot too small for this bottle palm?

I could get a slightly bigger pot, but the space wouldn't even be appropriate for too much bigger. I'm wondering how this bottle palm will do in that tight of a pot. Perhaps it would get rootbound very quickly? Looking for some guidance. Thanks.

Seedlings turning super light green (almost gray)?

I have seedlings of various palm species (sabal palmetto, washingtonias (prob all hybrids but supposedly were some of each), and a phoenix canriensis) all of which I germinated inside and grew to about their current size. I then moved them outside a week or two ago since it has been getting quite warm outside, highs in the 70s and lows in the 50-60s, although it did rain a couple days in a row. Then (most of) my seedlings starting lightening to this grayish, dull light green color, and the strap leaves are curling up a bit (I know this is a sign of stress from the plant but can’t determine specific cause). The only one that doesn’t seem to be doing this is the canariensis…

Potential Rot?
by Effusions- 0 replies

Hi all, My Lady Palm (Rhapis excelsa) seems to have had a tough winter. I've recently put it outside on my shaded porch, but it is still having trouble with new growth. The pictures i've included should demonstrate my problem. Any advice on how to improve the situation? My largest stems seem to be in the process of rot.

The squirrels have been wreaking havoc on my potted palms this spring. I'm not sure why they're so attracted to them, but they love digging holes in the pots and tearing up my palms' roots. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, did you come up with a good way to deter them? So far I've tried trapping them or popping them with airsoft guns when I catch them in the act. All to no avail, though.

Hi Everyone, I have had this plant since 2018, it has lived in other countries fine and although I am in Barcelona over a year now, but I don’t think it likes its spot here. The plant’s been always happy but recently the leaves are drying quickly and the soil has white damp looking stuff on it. I am not sure what this plant is called and any help to make it look happy again is gratefully appreciated. Thanks

So glad to have found this forum today. I have a 17 year old majesty palm that looks terrible but is very sentimental. It got sunburnt in the car while moving across the country about a year ago, but continues to produce new fonds and plenty of seed pods. I staked it with wooden dowels before the trip. Now that I know it has survived, I’m ready to repot. But the trunk is so thin, and I’d like to plant it deeper in a bigger pot. How high up the exposed trunk can I go? Can I plant it deep enough to cover the skinny green section? Go a little deeper and cover the slightly wider brown segment? Or go all the way and burry it to the base of the plant? I’m afraid of ma…

Are these seeds still good for anything?
by qwertz- 3 replies

At the end of October last year, I bought and sowed 3 Christmas palm seeds and one bottle palm seed. So far nothing has sprouted. Today I took the seeds out of the pots and took a closer look at them. The first three photos are photos of bottle palm seed. Is it my imagination or did something try to grow near the top end but it withered and became woody? In the third photo you can see that a hole at the bottom of the seed is partially unsealed and a gap has formed. In the fourth photo is a Christmas palm seed. At the top I noticed a characteristic formation. The Christmas palm seed in the fifth photo looks at the top different than the seed in the fourt…

Hello everyone. I recently purchased three majesty palms and I have them in pots on my patio. We are in Tampa, Florida (zone 9b) and these palms are going to near lots of direct sunlight. The pots have one hole about 1.5 inches in diameter in the bottom of them for drainage. The soil I used was Miracle Grow, Cactus, Palm and Citrus soil. After only having them a little over a week, you can see they are turning very brown. I presume this means they need more water. I've been watering them every other day, just when I notice that the top inch of soil is dry. If these aren't the best for being in pots in a patio in direct hot sun, can someone recommend an…

new fronds cut short?
by 5am- 4 replies
A few of my smallest potted palms have pushed out new fronds which appear to be cut very short. Nothing larger has been affected. Is it a pest? There has been some animal destroying my aloes and cactus. Also, I do have 2 S. causiarum with a severe white scale infection, but I haven't seen bugs on anything else. Is it cold damage? There were 2 nights below freezing in mid Jan. Should I toss them or just watch and wait?

Jubaea Chilensis -query

Spring finally appears to have arrived here in SE UK, after a very wet, very grey and very long winter.... Luckily, we didn't experience much in the way of severe cold, with nothing more than a a few frosty mornings. Every palm bar one suffered from spear pull after (a very cold) winter 2022/2023, I'm not expecting too many issues this year. But time will tell... My small Jubaea suffered from spear pull early last year and as a result only put out one crimpled frond by the end of the summer. It has already stared to put out new fronds this year, however, it now appears to be growing at any angle. Does anyone know if it will straighten up in time, or is th…
